High Beam Assist

I have a new Sportage 1.6T-GDi Hev Gts Auto AWD. With my lights set to Auto, I push the stick forward to engage the HBA High Beam Assist and the green auto light appears in the cluster panel. When conditions are met the main beams come on… but since testing they don’t like dipping for oncoming traffic or when pulling onto a bypass behind other traffic.
Am I missing something? Can you adjust the sensitivity?
thanks Eddie

Hi Eddie,

do you mean the high beam icon on the dash (blue icon) is always on ?

if so then this is correct and i suspect that if it wasn't working correctly you would be getting plenty of angry flashes from oncoming motorists.

having used it myself over the winter i was amazed at how good and how rapidly it adapted the light pattern and the available lighting whilst following other cars or with oncoming traffic was remarkably good !!

yes as far as i remember it stays blue even though it adjusts the light pattern automatically - drive down a country road and watch the hedges even when following another car, the hedges are in 'full beam' whilst the car infront is in dipped beam - its very clever and works perfectly in my own useage (y)

Assuming you have either a GTLS or a '4' spec then the lights don't actually dip, the LED matrix is actively modulated to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. I've noticed that the blue indication stays on throughout, which initially confused us as being at odds with our previous 2017 Sportage. You can disable the ILS or change the speed at which it becomes active, but you can't change the sensitivity.

The main beam system is actually the only problem I've had with my Sportage. The switch was faulty on the dip/main stalk when I received it and I had to master the system well enough to convince the dealership that I wasn't an idiot before they agreed to have the car back for repairs!

I absolutely love watching the headlights ‘dance’ on mine as oncoming traffic approaches on country A roads. You can quite clearly see the movement of the dipped/shadowed area, it’s genius. I’ve passed hundreds of oncoming cars and never yet been flashed (not that kind 😂) at.

I was behind an Audi A8 with the digital matrix system recently, that’s a gimmick but also rather clever projecting images onto the road.
