Tom Tom also used to have a lifetime updates on their products. But had the proviso that it only coved devices still made or when update file size was to large for the device, rendered the lifetime finished.
That makes sense for maps and the like - but LIVE services are just small data set downloads 'on the fly' so I don't see why they are restricted. I'll be interested to see what happens next year when my '17 Stonic hit's 7 years - will I loose the Speed Cam and congestion feeds?

off topic, but reminded me to plug in my 20 year old Garmin with ‘lifetime maps’
…status…currently updating the maps…😂

I'm wondering if Kia bought some form of group licence key from TomTom (maybe for x thousand cars) which has now expired and Kia won't renew and TomTom have no way of deconstructing the group keys to offer individual owners keys?
This sounds the most rational answer. In IT we would purchase a block set of 1,000s of MS Windows NT licence keys for the Bank's PCs. As new versions of Windows were released the licences expired and the outdated machines and software were dumped. So I think this is where we find ourselves. Dumped!

Thanks for that. This message is very clear. "TomTom is responsible for TomTom Live Services". "Subject to ....." is the kicker.
Have you tried connecting to your home Wi-fi..? I did this a few days ago, and i can still get information, including traffic/weather updates, but not when i'm out on the road..

If it still works on Home WiFI it should work via a HotSpot on your mobile phone. There is no difference (that the NAV unit can determine)

My license key has expired as of today. My car was 7 years old mid March, taken a while to kill off the license key.
I guess there’s going to be a lot of pi**ed off Kia owners out there now with a less functional sat nav system.
Just thought I’d throw this into the mix.
My daughter has a 2015 Kia Rio 3, I’ve just connected my phone via the Kia Hotspot App to her navigation system and her display shows speed cameras. A few seconds later “downloading live traffic information“ appeared on the screen.
Makes me wonder why the 7 year cutoff for licences doesn’t apply to Rio’s.🤔

I'm just finishing off a tour of Europe and currently in Strasbourg. For the most part I have been using the free app TomTom Amigo. It's not perfect, but it has been pretty good with the speed cameras (danger zones in France ;)) and identify live traffic situations. It's a shame that I have a perfectly good sat nav in the Kia but can't get live services.

My Kia Venga was 8ys old back in April and received "online service key has expired" had the run around between my local dealer and Kia still not been given any suitable answer for available fix, basically as the car is out of warranty they don't want to know

Just to add to the list, Kia ProCeed GT, first registered 31/10/2015 (over 8 years old now), and just this morning had the dreaded "Online service licence key has expired" notification

This really is quite annoying as i use traffic updates on my daily commute, and no, using my phone isn't a suitable substitute :mad::mad:

I don't understand the stunning silence from Hyundai / Kia on this one, someone inside the organisation must know what is going on and what solutions are available.

Just to check, do people who have the dreaded message loose Speed Camera warnings from the Nave unit as well as traffic congestion?

Can you not use Waze or does it not have aa

My guess is technology wasn't great 7 yrs ago why the license can't be renewed and maybe the contract ended. Still 7years is pretty good and I'm still surprised people use the online maps from 7 years ago.
Maps still work r they updated whats the big deal if live data doesn't work this only gives u speed cameras and road works.

Yes, you loose the speed camera warnings when using the inbuilt NAV

I think most folk don't want to have to use a second device with cradle etc, when they have paid for a car with the technology already installed, only to find out after a set time it becomes obsolete

Maps are easily and freely updatable now

This is my next task, to update my map pack and see if that extends the Licence key for a further period

Also, anyone else having this issue, do you have to cancel the message evey single trip you take in the car, if so this is really going to grate soon

Because speed cameras, particularly the Average Speed types, roadworks and traffic congestion are important to me.

I don't want to have to keep plugging a mobile phone in when I have a fixed in car device and I find Waze displays too cluttered anyway.

At time of purchase it was inferred that 7 years subscription would be free and then you could pay - clearly not the case. The contract can't have ended either as the service is still offered on later cars it just seems to be a licensing matter - the technology is still the same.
