Seriously though, I hope this is all sorted soon Anthony. Did the EM light go out after the long drive this weekend? I'm guessing not?

Didn't get to do the big drive as planned , but going biking in wales on Wednesday so it will get a 200 mile plus run out then and another 150 miler on Thursday and if no better its going back Friday !

Hi Anthony,

Lets hope doing those miles clears it and puts the light out. It needs to try for an Active Regen (even if its failing to do the Max Temp one) in order to see if it will clear. Like you say though, if not, it has to go back, as you will have done all you can.

please keep us up to date with what happens.

Sharon.

Received a email from Kia today telling me to get it booked into the dealer to get looked at which isn't a problem , goes in Friday, Only problem is no courtesy cars for 2 weeks !So im screwed with no car ! .. Thank you very much KIA !

Why are Kia dealers no help at all ???

This happened with me and VW once before. Was told no loan cars available. Since that was their problem, I told them that as they had to provide me with a car, and that they could hire me a car for the week they needed mine off the road, and pay for the hire themselves.

I would insist they either source you a loan car or they can wait to work on yours until they can provide a loan car to you.

Yeahhhh ! ... did 280 plus miles to wales and back and guess what ...no more light ! .... light went out shortly after id started my trip , car wasn't even warm ????kind of thinking sharon was right and it was a faulty sensor rather than a DPF fault ? ... So now im either waiting for the light to come back on and the car go into limp mode or the car will behave as normal ... only time will tell ?? ... either way im still not impressed by Kias attitude !

Thanks for everyone's comments on this .

Edit : spoke to kia about the loan car as well and there response was :I'm
sorry to hear the dealer doesn't have a courtesy car available for you. Courtesy
cars are provided by the dealer where possible ""“ they are not an entitlement
under the warranty.

Hi Anthony,

Glad to hear that the EM light finally went out. Certainly took way longer than it should. If its a sensor issue it could come on again at any time. If it goes into limp mode then there was a DPF blockage that has happened again (highly unlikely though with your motorway driving and trip lengths) Just drive it as you normally do and see what happens.

As for the loan car issue - Thats not at all good that they are saying you don't have an automatic right to one by default. I've not had to look into this before with Kia, so don't know what the 'fine print' says. I will look though, as they shoud have to provide you with a car if yours is off the road for warranty repairs.

Our dealer offers loan cars "subject to availability". Because the dealer is only a mile away we have never needed one and have always got our car booked in very fast for service, a loan car would have resulted in a wait.

But that is just the same as any make we have owned. All have a limited supply of loan cars and in an emergency it can be very annoying to be told that they are all out on loan. Once in an emergency I was given a nail of a PX that had just been taken in, only just lasted the 3 days I needed it.Edited by: Another Kia

I have found, in the past, that most courtesy cars are booked well in advance. My Citroen dealer used to advise booking the next annual service at the time of paying for the current one, to ensure I got a courtesy car! They only usually have a few cars, and first in line get them. I would hire a car and give them the bill for any warranty jobs that cannot be dealt with quickly.

Hi guys,

rizmo, I agree with you there, as that's probably what I'd do in that situation.

It might be worth starting a new thread in the 'Idle Chit Chat' forums about the issue of courtesy cars to see what experiences our members here have had when it comes to courtesy cars from other manufacturers who they've been with in the past

I had/still have the same problem, took it to the garage ( owned by a friend) the garage has a very good reputation. He did a diagnostics, fault codes.
p0532 a/c refrigerant pressure sensor “A” circuit low.. other words aircon not working ( got regressed)
and p2454 particle filter differential pressure sensor circuit low. He did a forced regen, light starting blinking again next day.. so he Checked that the sensor was working properly ( yes) took out the sensor and the pipes and gave them a clean, which is what is advised to do. light started blinking again the next day, took it back and everything is working as it should, so their is no reason the light should be blinking, but is, theirs to many sensors and switches on cars these days... gonna take the bulb out. Not taking it to kia, as they will do exactly the same as the other garage but charge me a fortune and not solve the problem... p.s fuel filter was change at the same time.

gonna take the bulb out.
Doing that would mean an MOT failure thus rendering the car illegal to use on the road. Don't forget that driving a car illegal to use on the road also has insurance implications, any damage you cause to other vehicles, property, persons etc would be covered but any damage to your own car would not be.

All these sensors, filters etc are there for a reason, its to protect the planet and its inhabitants. Are you really happy pumping out carcinogenic particles when the car is designed to collect them.

I would suggest you take it to a more responsible garage. Businesses that carry on in this manner need reporting to the DVSA and prosecuting.

There was a garage near us that took this attitude but they knew what they were doing. Customers had to sign a disclaimer that stated that they had been told by the garage the car would be illegal to use after the work. DVSA sent an undercover inspector round and as a result were heavily fined and lost their MOT facility. No longer trading there but probably in a back street somewhere.

It is a responsible garage, his family have had this garage since 1974.. (not gonna get into that argument). As it’s lockdown and not many garages open, i also took it to Halfords garage and they came up with the same diagnosis and did the same work.. Which cost me again but the light came on again the next day.. so what’s the point of these codes if they dont pin point the problem. the car is a Rio diesel 2013 is working as it should, and it is regening.

The generic readers used by 3rd party garages do not always give the correct code, the code from Halfords and your trusted garage may be the same but may not be correct. The info used by these garages is not make specific thus that code for a Kia may be different from that given by the manufacturer of the code reader.

The only way to get a correct diagnosis is to go the a Kia dealer. Our local one now has the workshop open so I would expect there to be one local to you open as well.

Keep using indies and throwing money away if you want but in the end a Kia garage will be your only solution. It will still cost you but it would only be one charge and you have already thrown money down the drain twice.
