Wisp of smoke from centre console

Hi all, any help/advice/opinions would be gratefully received;

Got a 62 plate Ceed, recently had it MOT'd and serviced (not with Kia as they were fully booked and it's outside the 7 years). Last couple of trips there was a burning smell. It was acrid, but not as strong smelling as a burning clutch. After parking up for a few minutes after smelling it, I started the car and noticed a wisp of white smoke gently rising from the exact middle of the centre console back at the point where the windscreen meets the dash, like a lit cigarette was sitting on the dash. I had the heater on and immediately turned everything off and took advice. Unfortunately, I'd just dropped off a relative at the hospital and had no choice but to try and make the journey hoping it was nothing too serious. I did a further 10 mile journey without incident and another short trip but with the heater system turned off. The issue hasn't repeated itself but I haven't had the air con/heater on as I was concerned it was a electrical/loom issue.
I've read a similar post and I don't think it is a heater coolant as that apparently has a sweet smell to it. I've also read that oil leaks from Cam seals with the air intake on could cause this but it was specific to the location described and when under the bonnet there was no smell at all. Could using the wrong oil in a top up cause this (i.e. Garage I took car to serviced it incorrectly?)
At best I'm hoping somethings died in the vent along the top of the dash but I doubt it would cause a wisp or smell that I experienced. Any advice other than take it to a dealer (I intend to do that)? I'd rather have an inkling before driving the 40 miles to the nearest one and I would try and recreate the issue with the bonnet up but if its a possible fire risk I'd prefer to fix it before doing any more damage.

Thanks all!

Sounds to me like the heater matrix has leaked. Different types of anti freeze has different smells when hot. My work van went and smelt like a burnt clutch, but bot as strong, it was horrible smell and wouldn't go for weeks afterwards. The smoke might be where the water has leaked out of the system and hit something electrical?

As for wrong oil in service I wouldn't say it would create a wisp of smoke inside the cabin. This is something that has gone behind the dash, and the fact is you haven't used the heater again since and the smell isn't there points to the heater matrix.

Have you checked the coolant level to see if you have lost anything through the system? All in all Id recommend getting it t a garage ASAP.

Agree with flybitten on this as a probable cause. It is the blower motor control resistor (or FET on some models). If it has cooked then you will find the blower fan either does not run at all or runs at only one speed. They do get hot so it might just be dust or a spider in there.

For other people who may have a similar issue: Turns out it was the automatic wipers/rain detection circuitry built into the windscreen giving up the ghost. The way to check is if there is a slight indentation, almost like a small rock chip that appears to be inside the windscreen slightly off-center along the bottom of the windscreen.
