I don't see how wind noise can be a fault, the wind noise on any car is down to it's design and aerodynamics.

1st thought. Check ALL windows are fully shut.

Bit windy round here today, which never helps.

 

Could it be a door seal has been unseated? Is it noticeably noisier than the Niro EV you test drove?

The Niro does have higher than desirable wind noise at speed. For long trips I use average quality noise cancelling earphones which cut out the road and wind noise but let me hear higher frequencies like horns and sirens. I'm more concerned about the tyre noise from the low profile tyres.

 

Wind noise, then as the song goes.

Pump up the Volume.

But going from a HEV to a EV is worlds apart in quietness, so anything such as wind noise is picked up, as it is no longer drowned out by engine noise.

 

Thanks all for your input. My previous vehicle was a Tesla Model 3 and it was renown for wind and tyre noise at motorway speeds, however, the wind noise appears to kick in at much lower speeds on the Niro, which is pretty alarming. The tyre noise is less on the Niro, given the fact it actually has a reasonable amount of rubber on each corner, which is good. Shame about the whistling wind, though.

 

Tesla have a nice aero shape. Unlike the Kia.
Whistling is often something like a window dropping a bit & not being fully shut or a seal on door or boot.

 

I have no experience of what the Niro sounds like, but if it is annoying take it into the dealers and ask for the technical manager to have a drive in the car. See what he thinks, it may just need some door adjustment. No harm in asking.
