Does anyone know if the cable is long enough?

Thanks

Just driven from NW UK to southern Spain and back using only Tesla Superchargers. I used over 20 different ones and whilst most are the newer versions, there were one or two that had the older, shorter cable As in the photo above.

Apart from stopping at one in the UK, similar to the one on the photo above, it was impossible to get close enough as they had large rubber stop bumps which prevented the car getting close enough.

Didn’t matter though, as I’d accidentally chosen one that did not accept non Tesla vehicles anyway. (Warwick services N). I did manage to park parallel to the charger with my front right wheel on the rubber stop bump to get it plugged in (it was 2am and empty) but as soon as I tried to start the charge, the app wouldn’t let me because it knew it wasn’t a non-Tesla location. Doh!

Didn’t matter though as there was one 13 miles murther up the route.

For anyone planning a trip of over 500 or more miles, it is well worth paying the £8.99 for a months Tesla subscription as the savings will offset the fee and you will almost never have to wait for a charger.

It probably depends how the chargers are laid out. In four and a half years with the Model 3 I can recall a number of variations of layout, some which would work with the EV3 and some which probably wouldn’t. I’ve just looked back at some old photos, and of five different sites quickly found three would be no issue and two might be problematic if not impossible.

The issue is probably that there’s no consistency in layout and you are not going to find out till you get there. Note, these sites are all in UK, not sure if layout consistency is different abroad.

Maybe an idea for a thread is for anyone stopping at a Tesla Supercharger site to report back here if layout works with EV3 or not.

Illustrative photos below, in order Rugby Services, Trafford Centre, Havant, Membury Services westbound, Norton Park Hotel. Aside from Rugby which I know is not, unsure whether any of the others are open to other vehicles or not.

Once you specify your car in the Tesla app, it will only show you Superchargers that are available to non-Tesla cars. There are still plenty of them. In France and Spain they were all the newer v3/v4 versions with the longer cable. Every Tesla supercharger site I visited in France and Spain have all been jointly funded with the EU.

What I usually do if I'm going somewhere I havn't used, is go to Google Maps, find the Tesla charger you want to use, Then click on it to get the overview. Someone will have posted a picture.
I must admit I've yet to come across one with the rubber chocks. And I think it would have been even more difficult with the Niro EV I had.

Thanks for the replies and pictures. I guess it's a case of "suck it and see" 😉
I live in the central belt of Scotland, and up until now we've only had one long trip where we had to top up at an ionity charger in Perth. We're looking at a longer trip in the Highlands next week, and we were looking at using the Tesla chargers, as there are some in Inverness, Fort William, Aviemore and Perth. We have newly installed Tesla chargers 3 miles away, so we went there for a test charge and it worked really well. It wasn't until after that we discovered that older V3 chargers had shorter cables and looking at the pictures of the afore mentioned chargers on Zapmap, and reading the comments that we may have problems changing the EV3.
