Using Siri to open and start a route in Carplay with Google Maps.

Normally using the ‘Voice’ button will default to Siri using Apple Maps, however it is actually possible to use Siri to initiate navigation using Google Maps with the ’Voice’ button, but does involve using a ‘Shortcut’ on your iPhone called Get Directions.

Once installed it works by invoking Siri by pressing the voice button and saying ‘Get Directions’, and Siri will respond with ‘What’s the Text’. You just speak the address as you would normally with Apple Maps and the route will load and run using Google Maps.

If I’ve done this correctly 🤞, then this should be a link to the ‘Get Directions’ shortcut…..

Get Directions shortcut
(When prompted, open this in ‘Shortcuts’ in your iPhone)

Let me know how it goes, and more importantly if it works for you (it does for me!)

It is also possible to prompt Siri with out pressing buttons
Eg - hey siri navigate … etc
Depending on your phone set up
Yes, but that will default to Apple Maps, saying ‘Get Directions’ with the Get Directions shortcut will use Google Maps instead, and using the voice button means you don’t need to say Siri.

Don't know about Siri, but it works with Android.
Long press on voice button.
Hey google, navigate to XXX
Apple unfortunately prefer to default to their own Maps app, whereas Android will obviously default to their own Google Maps app.
All part of the Apple/Google app wars unfortunately. 😉
