How do I get the starter out? Do I really need to drain the water and remove oil cooler water hose ? Or how about remove the alternator? Even this also seems very difficult to remove. Any info very appreciated , Thanks.

Just had the dreaded starter issue dash lights all illuminated and the battery is fully charged no crank !
it’s a pig trying to get to the starter from above the engine bay and not much better below
I’ve located the bolts but I’ll have to bend like a pretzel to get a spanner on it..
So far I have taken off the air filter and pipes
Considering the water pipes now to inch a bit more room!
any advice would be appreciated
Also if car parts places that sell starter for a reasonable price..??
Thanks in advance!

Starter came off easily Once I had the air filter pipes out the way managed to remove it from the top !
now trying to source a reasonably priced one
Halfords have Lucas one for £189 ish which would be useful if I need to take it back for any reason!
online prices are not that much cheaper surprisingly unless any one knows of a Kia supplier online better than £200 for the starter on a Kia Sportage 2012 diesel?

If it's working then I don't think it's the starter..

What it sounds like your experiencing is the engine firing and this disengages the starter..
So I think your problem maybe more to do with the engine..

Is it a petrol? Or Diesel
If yes probably a spark issue or possibly fuel..if the car runs fine when running then I'd maybe look at sensors? BOTH diesel and petrol
Maf map and iat ..even maybe the crank angle sensor..

Probably nothing major your map maf and iat sensors can be cleaned..see if that helps..youtube to see how 🤔

Any engine light flickering?
Fuel economy worse?
