Is it just the matter of downloading and putting it on a USB stick and anyone have the link for the downloads?

Will I lose my settings after updating?

Lastly I have the Xceed base trim, does it support the new DAB+ not the older DAB?

Any known glitches with the Xceed?

Map updates cost ÂŁ40 inc vat.
There is an interesting point concerning manufacturers charging for map updates in that in many cases the speed limit information that many cars rely on for their Speed Limit Information Function (the speed icon on your dash) is embedded in the satnav data. Now NCAP, who set the standards for SLIF, say this feature can be provided as a camera only, satnav only or a mix of both technologies, but if the system relies on satnav data the maps must be updated at least 4 times a year for 6 years free of charge.

I have only driven a 2019 ceed and an 2020 Xceed but from what I can see they both employ mixed technology systems which 'should' mean map updates are free.

HOWEVER, having spent nearly a year arguing with Mercedes about their implementation of SLIF I wouldn't recommend taking this up as I found that Mercedes were largely ignorant of the whole subject 🙄 so it's likely other manufactures will be in a similar position.

Clearly most dealers won't want to do the update without being paid so it's just a shame map updates aren't downloadable to a USB stick so we could do the updates ourselves.

I took my car for its 1st annual service last week at the local Kia dealership. As part of the service does Kia update the firmware/ECU software as standard?

If not then where do I download to put on USB flash drive so I can update myself?

All modern cars are mostly run by electronics/computers/sensors and what have you these days unlike cars decades ago that were nearly 100% mechanical apart from the car battery so yeah it is important to updating the firmware nowadays right like updating a phone?

For example there could be a glitch in the old firmware that's causing less mpg, you never know.

If your dealership is staffed by decent, customer-oriented staff, then while your vehicle is with them for servicing, they should check for any system updates available and install FOC, if required.

As stated in post #3, should an updated map be available, they normally charge for that and ÂŁ40.00 inc VAT is KIA's recommended charge for that work. There has been the odd anecdotal report of some dealers charging less than that or even not at all!

Securing illegal material from internet or other sources is decidedly unwise and any files or folders downloaded may well have been infected as they only turn up on seriously iffy websites. Ebay has some shady people who will sell what they claim to be the latest material for your system but many of them charge far more than KIA dealers and there is no comeback, whereas your dealer will mend anything that might go wrong during installation or as a result of that installation.

Just to be clear about the legality, or illegality, that I mentioned, an offence would be committed through infringing intellectual property rights by purchasing or downloading material that belongs to KIA and has clearly been purloined from their possession at some stage in the production, shipping or final sale of a vehicle, copied and distributed for money, for sheer devilment or any other reason.

UVO changes things, however.
