Hi all,

I have an 11 plate Cee'd SW 1.6 Diesel. I've never had any problems with it - so much so that when we were changing cars recently, for the first time ever we elected to keep the old car. My wife now has it.

Every now and again i have the issue, Today again it wouldn't start. I have tried jump starting , but to no avail. The engine won't even crank - I can hear the start motor trying to do its thing but then everything dims followed by a loud repetitive relay clicking sound - the dashboard flickers on and off while doing this.

The immobiliser light has gone off as has the diesel glow coil light so I don't think it's an issue with either of those.

I'm not the most mechanically savvy of people, but I will try my best to follow any explanations/suggestions you may have!

Thank you in advance!

What you describe is typical of either an old and tired battery or a poor connection somewhere in the high current circuit between the battery and the starter. How old is the battery? Can you measure it's voltage? Are the battery terminal connections good, and the "ground" connections between the battery and car body.

Please describe the jump start procedure you used and what exactly happened when you did this.

Hiya, I think the battery may be original so probably does need changing. When I do get a bump start I use jump leads to another car. Have to leave it for about 5 mins, connected, then give it a go. It normally starts after a couple of turns. Then starts again first time. It's doing my head in!!! ?? battery and connections look good condition but will get battery checked and change if original. Thanks for the reply
