My girlfriend drives a 2011 Kia Picanto, and recently the flip-out key seized up and was becoming difficult, so I bought a blank replacement fob on ebay along with a few spare pins for the key & transferred everything from the old shell to the new one.
I followed a guide on YouTube demonstrating the best way to do this. It involved melting the back of the case with a soldering iron to free the immobiliser chip from it's glued in spot. I was a bit unsure of this step but took it slowly and it worked a treat. Once I'd put the new key back together chip & all I tested the key and it unlocked & started the car no problem.
The next time she tried to drive the car, it wouldn't start (engine cranking no problem, but won't fire up). Seems to me like an immobliser problem..
At this point I thought maybe I had damaged the chip removing it after all, so we dug the spare key out with a view to having a locksmith clone the chip to put into Frankenstein's key.
Now it turns out the spare key won't start the car either.. Exact same issue - cranking but not starting. The immobiliser light on the dash comes on for 30 secs once you turn either key to the first position, which suggests it's detecting the immobiliser, but no matter what I can't get either key to start the car.
Has anyone got any suggestions, short of taking it to Kia and having my trousers pulled down.
As you can imagine, I'm getting a fair bit of stick at home for getting involved in the first place 🤦‍♂️ so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
