Hello all,
I have joined the forum and am new to the site so apologies if this is the wrong space
I am seeking some advice and help with issues with Kia Sportage 2017, and it's warranty
You will appreciate there is a fair bit of information after 7 months but will try to keep to the minimum as possible.
The car had a Check Engine light come on back on the 10th of Nov 2022, on the way to 5 year old swim class.
We purchased the car March 2021. We were informed the car has a 7 year warranty and the government has allowed it, along with Kia and other car manufacturers to clear back log once everything was open. The delay is by a month and a half. The car was service at first chance when dealership had staff available. The car has a full history but there was a delay in the 3rd service due to COVID-19. We Didn't even own the car then.
My Kia has been to 2 different dealers most recent dealer GWR Kia Brentford, into 6 months now. The first request I made was to confirm the warranty back in Jan 2023 which they did and second check was for fuel contamination, as the 1st dealer was adamant it was the cause, even though we have receipts of fuel in the car. They wanted to charge £478 to clean the whole fuel system. I decided to go to a different dealer and also get a second opinion from my own mechanic, who ran diagnostics and checked the fuel. I had the car serviced at the first dealership as it was due in Dec 22.
The manager at GWR Kia service confirmed it was not fuel contamination in March 2023, as that's how long it took them. GWR Kia checked the document and confirmed the 7 year warranty was fine in Jan 2023 and have since replaced parts under the warranty. They replaced Fuel injectors, Fly wheel and others, I have not been made aware of as I am only communicating through Kia UK due to constant lies by GWR both to myself and Kia UK. I have logged a case with the motoring ombudsman in March 2023, but they informed me there is a 6 month wait for someone to look at the case.
The car is still not repaired as of 24th May 2023, they cannot figure out what is wrong with the car. GWR are saying engine needs to be stripped. All of a sudden the warranty is not valid and I would have to pay. GWR don't seem to understand the world was in lockdown. I have provided Kia UK with their own links to their own documentation and government links to provide to GWR.
I have read there are issue with Kia Sportage in other countries and there are "Class Action" against Kia. There is clearly an issue with their engines and the 7 year warranty when it comes to repairing their faulty part.
Research links
The users in this forum are the ones who are experiencing similar excuses but additional links from cases in US and Australia for check engine light and car idling issues.
There is lots of information, the above are some I have used for my research.
I am planning on logging a case After 7 months without a car and no end in sight, the same for the UK is called "Group Litigation". I plan on setting up a online petition and if enough people sign, I plan to log a case against Kia UK.
Hoping Kia would care enough to a collective of people with the same problem. Otherwise they will have to for the legal process.
Apologies for the long read, but this now causing unndue stress and health issues.
Really need some advise, thank you in advance for any advise. Please let me know thoughts if petition would be the way to go now.
Kind regards,
JP
