My first car was a Vauxhall Viva HA first registered in 1966. I bought it in either 1969 or 1970 I think. Here's what it looked like for you youngsters

Mine was a 1959 Ford Popular (the sit-up-and-beg version), complete with side-valve engine, vacuum operated wipers (so they stopped working when you put your foot down), rod brakes and not sure whether it was no synchromesh at all or none on first gear. At any rate I learned to double declutch and heel and toe simultaneously - rather rapidly and under severe pressure down a steep hill in Hebden Bridge

Following on from the HA I had a Viva HB and a Viva HC. Changed to a Ford Capri after that!

My Dad used to borrow Granddad's standard van, like Livi'sto take us for days out in the summer. My first car was 2 HB Viva's. Butchered the gearbox out of one and it (E reg - 1967)did portsmouth to glasgow on many occaisions. Put a Pioneer stereo in it that I swear was more powerful than the engine and the 6 and a half gallon tank dint get you very far. All that was in 1985

Drove my mum's car first 1973 Hillman Imp, that got replaced with a Vauxhall Chevette 1981. My first car of my own was a 1978 MkIV Cortina, then the Chevette replaced that in 1987.
