Hi guys can someone please help!?
I'm looking to upgrade my spotage to a newer gtline.
The garage thats selling it has told me only has part service history done at 32000 miles 3000 miles ago. Its a 66 reg so should still have 3 years warranty left but as its not been up to date with the services would this invalidate it? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to be blunt but yes, without a full service history the warranty is invalid. It depends on how important that last three years are to you.

You should consider the warranty to be voided, though you may find that (depending on fault) it may not be an issue.
e.g. most of the cosmetics & bits of trim will be covered without needing to see service history, same goes for most of the electrical system.
But engine or mechanicals, you may find you're out of luck, though there is a "goodwill" option for repairs depending on whether Kia are willing to help you or not -you'll be at their mercy though.

You could always take the registration number and phone) Kia to ask about the warranty. then you'll be sure.
Better to buy from a kia dealer and specifically ask about the service history.
And your gt line is less than 3 years warranty left. 2016 equals 5 years old.
tell us where the advert is and i'll have a bit of a nose...

KIA cannot help - there is no central servicing database and the service record book and/or the actual servicing dealer are the only records.

Yea I found this odd when I asked the other day. How can they know if your warranty is still valid when they don't have a central database. Basically if you get a service from a non kia garage. Keep all proof of oil used etc as they could use the fact you didn't use a kia dealership to wiggle out of the warranty.

By examination of the service booklet. All services done at the correct times and done by a KIA dealer then all is good. Some services done by non KIA garages then they will need to see the detailed invoices to validate that it has been done correctly.;

Yea. I mean I understand why they say that, it just seems like another way to get you to go to kia for a £350 service. I beleive halfords do a service which is in line with manufacturers for £159 if you want to take that route.

While it may be inline, are they using genuine parts? Will they provide a full invoice detailing the Kia parts used?

Personally would never take a car to such a place for a service. Halfords for Major 2 X £299 & 1 Interim £119 Works out £228 more expensive than the official Kia 3 year service plan @ £489 For my Niro.
Never mind all the trouble if you need a warranty claim.

Apparently it is. Id never use halfirds for a service though. Problem is, if you don't use kia for the service, you have to keep proof that genuine parts were used along with the stamp.

But Halfords cannot do the bodywork inspection, which is free with a KIA service and chargeable if done on it's own. Also they cannot perform updates (or probably even know if there are any) to any of the computers and do not have access to KIA service bulletins

That will be the same for all car manufactures. They are not going to honor a warranty claim without proof that the car has been kept to the standard expected.
Or very few would never bother with services.

Exactly. Basically it states that kia can't own the monopoly on services in line with warranty terms, however they can make it extremely unattractive to go elsewhere.

A manufacture can put what terms they want in a warranty. As it is over & above your legal consumer rights. So in effect a extra bit of protection.
Only the EU decided that they felt it was a unfair & restrictive term that you had to use their dealer services to keep the warranty intact.
But nothing to stop them asking that only manufacture parts are used, or that the invoice has to list this.

When we had the Ceed I priced up servicing elsewhere using OEM parts but the savings were small at best. But the independent garages could not carry out the body inspection and stamp the book for the 12 year rust warranty thus that meant I would have to take it to a Kia dealer for that to be done, seemed like hassle for a small saving.

But it was posted on here that a Kia garage would include the body inspection in the service cost but if it was a stand alone they would charge, between £25 and £50 were the figures mentioned. Add either of those to the independent garage service and I would have been out of pocket and having to make 2 garage visits.

And don't forget about updates and campaign recalls (or whatever they call them - not the DVLA safety ones). They check for those when you book the car in (our dealer did) and carry them out FOC during the service, one made a huge improvement to the car. If it had been to an indy it would never have been done.

Why would anyone do that for at best a small saving or as I found a higher cost and double the garage visits? Then remember the loss of goodwill if you have issues. Cars cost enough so why neglect them.

"Why would anyone do that for at best a small saving or as I found a higher cost and double the garage visits?".......

Having been turned over twice by two separate main dealers who handed back the vehicle without undertaking main elements of the service I would be reluctant to let another one have the opportunity to do the same. Confidence in Kia main dealers shattered.

So the temptation to take my business to someone more deserving is overwhelming.

Did you report to Kia customer services?

I have to say our local dealership is good, not had a problem up to now with them.
