That is absolutely shocking consumption
.
I used to drive an 04 and an06 Sedona diesel in a previous job from Scotland to England and back and consumption seemed ok to me.I got about 35mpg. That was motorway and A class roads and doing about 70/80mph.

There's got to be a fault with yours if your getting that lowin mpg.

If your not happy with that dealers findings go to another. Some faults dont show up as fault codes on the ECU. EGR valves seem to play up on alot of diesels and airflow sensors. I regularly clean my airflow sensor on my van with an IPA spray. Is the power ok and your getting a goodpower when the turbo kicks in ?

I thought it was a nice car to drive very comfy.

mainly a roads and motorways not being driven hard as we are trying to get the mpg out of it due to 228 to a full tank of fuel when we 1st got the car and now we are keeping an eye on the consumption and reporting it to kia dealer but no codes means nothing wrong

Just because there is no codes showing doesn't mean there is nowt wrong. A few things are not covered by the fault detecting program.

Cant be exact but Fuel filter, air filter, diesel pump seals, air flow sensor sending wrong info due to sensor wire in airflow being dirty. In your case its sounds as if the engine is over fuelling. Is there loads of black smoke coming out of exhaust ?Hasprevious owner hada diesel tuning box fitted that is maybe turned right up for max performance? If you read in previous threads about the dieselSedona there is a problem with the diesel pumps on the 2.9.

The tuning box is about the size of a packet o' fags and adjustable. Wires will generaly go to a sensor plug. Its connected into the fuel rail pressure sensoron yours which is the same as my Rio diesel. I have mine set just one turn up from the setting the makers set. Performance is really good and fuel consumption has not not really been affected. I have not tried the box at the max setting as I am sure mpg will suffer. What it does is increase fuel rail pressure as I picked this up my my OBD code reader which has a live data readout when car is runningand showsfuel rail pressure, engine temp, incoming air temp, oxygen sensor, etc.
If you aint got one then I would get your car checked out at another dealer or diesel specialist.

Just because you have a problem with yours it doesn't mean Kia are bad cars. I have had 4 Kias' and not had anything worth complaining about.
Like I said earlier I used to drive an 04 and 06 Sedona diesel all over the UK and the consumption was good considering it was a 2.9.

I still believe you have a problem cos thats not normal consumption. I would go to a diesel specialist and see what he comes up with.

Good luck

Hope you aren't loosing out by trading in ...i.e. having to put more money down etc....

If its a 57plate surely its under mfr warranty. That car should be doing mid<>late 20's at least, so IMHO there is deffo something wrong with it. Maybe you've got some muppet telling you its okay because they've plugged in their OBD kit to it and no fault codes flash up, but thats not the big picture.

I would consider contacting KIA uk to telling them your issue and even look up a diesel specialist to get them to run some diagnostics. There is a guy north of Manchester called DieselBob ( http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/contactus.shtml) , give him a try.

Diesel Bob is a great guy for diesel problems and will help or offer advice on most problems. 288 miles on a full tank id dreadful,I average around 300 per 1/2 tank and around 550-570 on a full tank on a mixture of runs. I dont drive hard but keep up with traffic around me .

In burning a tankful in 288 miles theres got to be a bit of black smoke out the back. Where else is it going ?

Got to agree if it goes through a tank full every 288 miles it must have black smoke and stink awful of diesel along with the back of the car having loads of soot type stuff on it
