There are a plethora of ads for low cost, touchscreen head units from the likes of Amazon, ebay etc. Has anyone experience of purchasing and fitting a unit of this type to a Cee'd. I'm looking for a radio and sat-nav essentially.

Be aware after market units don't always work well with steering wheel switches ie: volume / phone integration etc unless you can find a suitable wiring loom which often can be nearly the price of a head unit.
Also, I don't understand this fascination with touchscreen stuff in cars. You wouldn't buy a tablet and then expect to keep it more than 5 years but folks seem to be going touch screen crazy for an item that in a car you will expect to last 10 - 15 years. Maybe its cheaper for manufacturers nowadays than physical switches etc, but it just seems a fault waiting to happen to me.

With regard to facia panels, I've just come across this which looks interesting:
Not sure I agree with you 2012Vengaman regarding touchscreen life. I have a tablet which is well over 10 years old and still works fine. What about smartphones you may not keep them 10 years but they get an awful lot of use during the life of the phone.
Anyway, what I'm really interested in is a large screen for sat nav with either buttons or touchscreen. Some come with a steering wheel harness included and it would be good to hear from someone who has successfully fitted one like this.

That facia panel above wont do it,you need a cage, you can get a dedicated Ceed one on ebay for ÂŁ41.00 plus the cost of the touchscreen ÂŁ26 for a non gps non rear camera for ÂŁ51 with them,a "universal" cage is @ÂŁ12 if your handy they will fit Im going to try one,the existing stereo is held in by 4 screws the original stereo has an integrated metal cage with 4 ears that marry up on the facia lugs, for the screws, the new double din may have to fit slightly proud for the slim plastic as above facia surround to fit as the double din is smaller than the hole in your dash if you dont put one on it will look like a dogs dinner,as stated Im attempting to do 2,me and the wifes ceeds Il keep you posted!

Hi
Not sure this is any help, but I replaced the old radio with a Kenwood double din unit a few years ago, and paid for the conversion on the steering wheel it was a dab radio with the aerial on the inside of the windscreen still on sale now for around ÂŁ60.
What I did learn was the LS model has very good standard speakers, and did not need upgrading and believe me I like it loud and clear.

I have a android head unit and works very well no need to change the speakers. Steering control is easy to wire. just remember with branded names everything is optional extra ÂŁ30 for steering wheel controls. There is no cage that fits Chinese head unit they are slightly bigger it can be fitted with no cage at all. I'll post a picture if you like.

This thread has some useful info.

Just taken delivery of ATOTO A6 head unit after reading reviews etc. Still needs to be installed but I'm impressed with the apparent build quality and documentation. I paid ÂŁ160 on ebay which is more than I originally intended to spend but I don't want to put a lot of effort into installing a unit and then being disappointed with the results.

Will update when installed.
