Having recently bought an optima sportswagon 2018 the dealer didn't give us a log book but told us it had been serviced. Now we want a Kia warranted service by another local garage they're saying its invalid without previous records; anyone managed to overcome this in the past and remotely acquire servicing that occurred prior to ownership, and if so, by what means please? Much appreciated

As far as we know KIA have no central servicing database - records are held at teh dealer only so you will need to track down which dealer has done the servicing. Suggest initially you go to the serviocing dealer and explain that without this vital information the vehicle has no useable warranty.

Welcome to the forum, 'PKC'.

I can't be sure what you mean by 'log book' but if you refer to the service record booklet that accompanied the car from the factory along with the owner's handbook, then the seller should have ensured that was present. Sadly, you also as the purchaser, should have checked the service history record before doing the deed - caveat emptor.

If there is no trail you can follow to locate the missing item, then depending on how recently you made the purchase, you may be able to reject the car. Citizens Advice can steer you through that. If this purchase was from the KIA dealer network, then the selling dealer ought to be able to help with regard to the vehicle history but if you bought from a non-franchised dealer, really you're on your own unless you are still within the rejection timescale.

Sorry to be so negative.
