Yep, am properly miffed. LOVE everything else about the car, but this spoils it.

I can’t understand why the master tech at the dealer can’t either sort it permanently, as in ID where the rattle is coming from and fettle it, or simply say, the roof is knackered and we need to provide this guy with a new sunroof.

Anyway, I have messaged @Kia Customer Service on here and await a reply.

I will also call my dealer tomorrow, ask to speak with the head of servicing and ask him the above question about their master tech.

If he doesn’t agree that they have had enough attempts to fix it, I will email Kia direct too.

So, the rattle has just started to return. Gentle, quiet noises started 3 days ago. Sadly my brain is so tuned in to them.

I opened the roof (for the first time since the fix) and closed it whilst travelling at about 20 mph.

It went quiet. For a day or so. Now gently chuntering away again.

So, what next? My dealer has had at least three attempts to fix it.........

@Kia Customer Service any thoughts?
Sorry to hear that mate. I just got mine back and it seems fine for now. I think they've greased the hell out of it! Let's see if it stays quiet...

Fingers crossed @kardinal

i have spoken to the service department at my dealer. The head of servicing was off this week, but they have promised he will call me next week.

I have basically (very politely said) that the roof is not fixable and I want it replaced. Or, replace the car.

I don’t want anything else. The Stinger does everything I need; has the style, toys, noise and pace. So, they need to resolve it.

I'm not sure they'll replace the car ;) but Kia customer services are quite good.
I just had to go back today to Bolton to get my wheel alignment looked at again. Car steering was off. They took it to a local specialist and got it sorted. Apparently the machine at the dealership was not calibrated. I asked for a refund and got it.

Of course they won’t replace the car, but that’s what I am saying. I spent 30k on a car with a 7-year warranty. “If you can’t fix the roof, and if you won’t replace it, then I will reject the car....”.

These small niggles become larger and eventually take over any sense of proportion. Not a criticism, just an observation after being through several similar issues with other products over the years.

I think you are absolutely right in making a stand on this. However much you might be in love with the car, there is obviously an issue which Kia know about, but which they cannot seem to fix (in the UK anyway).

Stick to your guns and maybe the top UK Kia technical man might speak to his counterpart in the US to see how they have dealt with this and (apparently) solved it.

Great shame for such a beautiful looking motor!

I think you're right Tommo. When I was younger I would have obsessed about getting the roof fixed. As I've got older I've begun to find it easier to accept that things are never 100% right. In my case, the roof isn't terrible - with the blind shut and music on I can't hear it, so although I will mention it each time I go in for a service, I'll probably not go out of my way to get it sorted. Life is too short!

A sense of proportion is good advice. However, at this point, with the roof 3” from my head, I need to try to resolve this.

KCS have messaged me back this afternoon and will liaise with my dealer. 🤞

Interesting that one of the first K5 owners' problems listed on the new K5 Owners website is the rattling sunroof.

I know it's not a Stinger, but I guess it shares a lot of the same components.

Can confirm that the fix from the new dealer I tried last week did not work. No change.
@Banzibarn that’s crap, but I am not surprised.

So, the head of servicing at my dealer called me on Friday.

He asked me to talk him through what had happened since the last ‘fix’. So I went through it all again. He then said Kia Technical were again suggesting further adjustments. I told him they had tried that three times already, without success, and that the solution had to be a new roof.

He said he would go back to Technical and discuss. I suggested he should also speak to @Kia Customer Service and said I had been in touch with them via this forum and had even given them his and the dealership’s names.

He said he’d be in touch soon. To be fair, he is as frustrated as me. All of the work they have done on my roof so far has been classed as ‘Adjustments’ by Kia, so the dealer is not paid as he would be if it was a warranty repair.

So, guys, what’s the betting on where this one will go next?

Update, Kia Technical have authorised the replacement of the sunroof seal. It is happening as I type 👍

Will let you all know how it goes.

That's good. Hope it's sorted this time!

I've started to get the tailgate rattle now. Have fixed with with some Gorilla Tape. Will ask for the proper fix to be done at the next service.

Just had my first MOT, so had my Stinger for 3 years now.

Had the tailgate fixed early on but have learned to live with the sunroof. I just keep the blind closed as that shuts out any noise. I really don't understand why an opening roof is necessary when the climate control is perfect. A fixed panoramic roof would be the ultimate solution as it would stiffen the body as I'm convinced that's where the trouble lies.

I spoke to a Kia mechanic once about the roof, his reply was "if you think that's bad you want to drive a Sportage"!!

100% agree. I'd much rather have a stiffer car and no sunroof. A big hole in car body is always going to be a problem. It's not only Kia that have this issue, it's a problem across all brands.
