ISG is dependent on many issues to work.

To me that would imply that one or more of the many conditions for it to work is not being met and you should have your dealer test it.

Mine works the vast majority of times. But the amber light comes on when it wont.

So OP is a Diesel, which are known to be more of a issue than petrol due to the higher compression needing more cranking power.
Short trips do not help. Air con on Auto causing fan to run at higher speeds will kill ISG.
