ISG on my 1.7 t/diesel Optima worked fine during the first year of ownership. As there were times when it was a damned nuisance however, I took to switching it off at start-up.
During year two, it worked a fair bit during the summer months but rarely in the cooler months unless I was doing a long trip, gaining a bit more energy from the alternator than just local trips
By the time the car was 3-years old, it was a novelty when it kicked in and I was delighted when it just stopped working altogether. The car is just shy of 4-years old now with a service coming up tomorrow and the car is pretty well run-in, the engine being as sweet as a nut. The DCT provides a nice jerk and judder-free drive, fuel consumption is consistently in the low-mid 40s per gallon so I struggle to see what I could replace the car with as KIA doesn’t want us to have the K5 replacement in the UK.
Over the next few months, the post-Brexit picture may become clearer and that could point me in one direction or another but while I have had bigger cars, more luxurious cars, more powerful cars and more economical cars, as a package, I would say the Optima SW is probably the best car overall that I have ever owned. Would I complain about the demise of my ISG?
