Sportage PHEV battery management system malfunction

Doubt very much that the June update would have anything to do with anything related to Engine and Emissions systems, far to risky as customers that were only halfway through updates and got corrupted or interrupted would have left cars stranded all over the place. Update was only for non safety critical systems, ie. Navigation, display etc.
As to OTA updates, would doubt KIA would risk it with Engine management software, much the same as PPF problem is a dealer visit and not an online download.
As well as this forum, I follow several Kia groups on Facebook & from what I’ve read this seems to be affecting Sportage PHEVs throughout Europe & North America, but only those PHEVs that have had the latest software update downloaded (either automatically OTA or via USB).

HEVs & ICE only cars are unaffected & some (not all) affected owners have eventually been told by Kia dealers that it’s safe to drive their PHEVs & “Kia is working on a fix”…
