Hi All,

I am buying a 2.0l Petrol Sportage tomorrow and it has 45k miles on it, its 5 years old in January so I think I need to get the timing belt changed on it.

Has anyone got this done already on their Sportage and if so what cost? I am in Irelant btw if there are any other Irish Sportage owners out there :)

I think the majority of owners on this forum run CRDIs - you may get some help with your petrol engine at the international forum where several North American owners with similar engines have DIY changed their belts. As this site doesn't like links you will need to paste this in to your browser

Hope this is of some use to you. 2.5hours labour time and from about £100 for the timing belt kit. You can get cheaper ones but who knows what quality is like.

Thanks for the help and tips, downloaded a document from Kia Tech and gave it to my local mechanic so he said he would have no trouble in doing it after Christmas.

I've just put a new belt on mine (gates belt £22) the tensioner and guide pulley had been replaced previously and were still ok
Tell your mechanic to tension the belt with the 'S' mark on the exhaust cam pulley at 12 o'clock.

cheers
