Sorent Front Parking Sensor : Issues-Can you help?

Hi,

I have just purchased a brand new Kia Sorento (KX-2 SN) and asked for the dealer to fit the aftermarket Kia approved FRONT parking sensors.

They did this, but I am having trouble with the sensors. I sent the car back to the workshop today to get them checked and got this response from them.

When the car is turned on, the sensors at the front turn on.
If they don't detect anything for 40 seconds, they turn off.
To turn them on you must push a button at the drivers right knee for two seconds, you then have 40 seconds to park / they must detect something, else they will turn off again.

Is this the same experience as others on this forum? I am furious that I have spent ÂŁ300 on parking sensors that are so cumbersome. Surely they should do more than this... The button is so poorly placed, it is dangerous to turn them on and off.

I have read that they should turn on below 5mph, turn off above 5mph, etc. Or they stay on and don't turn off unless I press the button specifically deactivate them.

Has anyone else had the Kia approved / dealer fitted front sensors

Seems like a lot of faffing about, but I guess it's better than them going beebedebeebdebeeb all the time wben you're in heavy traffic!

Had a ride in a new Ford Transit today, and that had front sensors. Switch on dash to turn on, then turn off after shuffled around parking area. Seems to not turn off automatically though, and stayed on until switched off. As it was original fitment, the switch seemed well positioned, but have seen other posts about poor position of switch on dealer fitted system.

This has moved on. The expectations set by my salesman were apparently wrong and what I was told when I purchased them is different to what they can actually do.
I am speaking with the sales manager and he informs me he will sort it out to my satisfaction.

Watch this space...

Ok, so the official dealer fitted (Kia) Sorento front parking sensors stay on for a grand total of 10 (yes, TEN!) seconds before they auto turn off.

I am not bad at parking but that is far to short a time for me.

Anyone else got these?

Hi. I had these sensors fitted last year. They turn on automatically when the ignition is switched on and off when switched off. They can also be switched on/off manually. When on, they tend to beep at varying intervals, which can be annoying. I tend to switch on only when needed. I complained to my dealer, who then reimbursed the cost plus the fitting and I still have the use of the sensors. You mentioned that you wrwe charged ÂŁ300 for them. That seems rather steep. mine cost much less. Hope that this helps.

You have a very accommodating dealer!

I was charged ÂŁ200 for aftercare fitting of reversing sensors about 7 years ago so ÂŁ300 seems to be in the right ballpark to me.

My dealer fitted front sensors on my new Sorento this March. I have a small button on the 'knee panel' by my left knee. I switch them on and off as I need them - probably a dozen times in 9 months. I don't like the sound of the 'automatic' set you have 'papasb'. (The dealer say the sets they use are better quality than the official ones!).
