Smart key and auto locking

Just been out to my 3 month old keyless entry Sportage and can confirm that you can lock the doors with the keys in the car by pressing either the lock switch on the drivers door or by using the remote. This is my third Sportage and I'm sure this was the case with the other two cars. I assume this is for your safety if for example waiting in an area where you don't feel secure so stopping anyone getting to you in the car.
Same as my ceed. The seat bolsters are better at finding the lock button than I am.

But those are deliberate actions when you're inside. The auto relock feature kicking in while the key is in the vehicle sounds odd though. Ignore the fact someone remained inside, a door was opened and the key was still in the vehicle. That would make it very easy to lock the keys in the car, which wouldn't really be locked, because anyone could open it as the key would be in situ. In the same way pressing the external door button while the key is inside, won't lock the car. Which incidentally, has saved me a couple of times.
