Just to share some of my experiences with fellow C'eed owners,
I'm now on my second.

Took delivery of original back in November 2007, car went back to dealer approx 10-15 times with various faults :

Poor handbrake, dash rattles, engine non-start, low coolant, dashinstrument illumination failureetc etc.

In the end after a failry lenghty exchange of letters the dealership to their credit replaced the car for another new vehicle at no cost to myself.

Kia were not interested in the slightest and kept hiding behind the warranty. They even blamed the dash light failure on me having a mobile phone in the car !

Case closed ? No.

Since taking delivery of the new car in April, this too has been back to the dealer 6 times.

Dash rattles, poor handbrake, knocking from the front, poor reverse gear selection ETC.

The knocking was due to a defective RHF damper which i'm told was replaced.

The gear selection issues were due to the clutch.

Both the damper and clutch were replaced under the warranty, but at only 4K miles it makes you wonder and worry about your purchase.

Have any of you expereinced similar to the above ?

Hi
bma, i have a pro_ceed i bought in august 2008 and have done 5,500miles from new, i too have an issue when selecting reverse, it usually take 2-3 attempts to engage it and i also find the handbrake just about holds on even the slightest of inclines and it only stops lifting up when it hits the centre consol, i have no other issues that i can think of and no rattles or squeaks, i keep meaning to contact my dealer but it's finding the time to put it in for repair...
did the new clutch solve the reverse problem?

cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
Not really no, the reverse is still the same, 2-3 attempts as you have also experienced.

Still the pull away is a lot smoother and the overall drive has been improved so that is a plus i suppose.

Not going to complain too much after all that's 4K miles of clutch use i don't have to fork out for !

Its going in for service soon so i'll get them to check the reverse yet again, i'll let you know if anything improves.

I'd like to know if your reverse improves / stays the same, useful ammo to present to the dealer.

my husband has a ceed sw owened since July 2008

since new have been telling local dealer that there was something wrong with the car but not listening to us.

PROBLEMS:

reverse gear very hard to engage quite often when in reverse you start to move and it pos out of gear.

1st and 2nd gear you have to slam them into gear really crunchy in and out of first.

when you bring you foot over biting point above or below something knocks.

dealer said first few time we wnt back "its a design feature" we said it is brand new it should be perfect, if its not perfect then it gets fixed. Answer "design feature"

next time we went back "oh its because its new every thing is tight let it do a few thousand miles and it will get better.

Taken it back after it had done approx 11,000 miles (we do lots of mileage) they have changed gearbox oil

lubricated different parts adjusted bits

"still no different"

been back again and they have

changed all the selectors and linkages from the gear stick to the box

"no different"

re-routed the linkages

"no different"

next thing they suggested after a lot of arguments was that they would remove the gearbox take it to pieces to see if there was any thing they could see that was wrong.

The first comment we made is that taking a gearbox apart is a SPECIALIST job "oh dont worry we are more than capable" Do we have faith in that statement NO!

They said they couldnt find anything wrong but they decided to replace some parts anyway and then said there was going to be a delay as they had to send it to a gearbox SPECIALIST to put it all back together again.

we know have the car back, are we happy NO!

there is a bolt missing out of the gearbox

1st,2nd and reverse gears are even worse than before

the knocking is still there on biting point

and the gear stick is now out of line it leans forward rather than being straight up.

Kia customer service absolutely stinks they dont want to help atall every time they say we will contact another agent and tell them to call you they dont.

my husband is seeking legal advice on what he can do as every independent person we have been to has said there is a problem. he sent them a letter stating that he either wanted a replacement car or money back the reply said no way!

I have seen other reviews that people have the same problems.

Tina,
First of all, Name and Shame the dealer so that we all know who to avoid.
Have you tried another dealer
Write to Kia to Mr Paul Phillpott Managing Director send it recorded delivery and ask for the Company to intervene, give them 14 days to reply.
I think you are well within your rights to reject this car, I would list all your problems in order take copies of your letters and visit the local trading standards office.
We are customers not development engineers for Kia and as such you expect to see positive action if you do have problems, it strikes me that your dealer sells cars but is not interested nor capable of repairing them.

Sounds like exactly what i went through,
Kia customer service were sh1t and took absolutely no interest what so ever in the problems i was experiencing, probably cause i wasnt the first that day to complain !!!

Anyway i must praise my dealer who actually resolved my problems by replacing the car i rejected, but only once i had threatened legal action.

Had you considered writing to the motoring press ( whatcar, auto express, Watchdog even )

I agree with one of the other posts on this topic that you should have a strong case to reject the car and obtain a replacement - that is if you want a replacment.

Let us know how you get on.

Dear all

Reverse gear update,

Well just had the car back from 1st service and warranty work including a further investigation into reverse selection problems.

Response from Kia : Inherent fault with the Ceed, as yet nothing they can do to resolve.

So, this message is to bid all you other Kia owners farewell, best of british with your cars, i think you will need it.

I'm off to visit my local friendly Mazda dealer.

Farewell and safe motoring etc

Dear all,

The car is going in for a further reverse gear selection issue next week,

so i can provide some evidence to the dealer that mine is not an isolated case, could i ask any of you if you have experienced issues when selecting reverse ?

I would be most grateful, otherwise i can just picture the scene where i am told there is nothing wrong and it must be me.

Thanking you all in advance for your help.

i have Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDi (2007) and have experienced this problem. just every now& then tho. you think it's engaged and and nowt happens! must be a common problem with the ceed,as not experienced with any other car i've owned.

i'm quite happy to put up with it at the moment as it does itinfrequently and i don't want the car to be messed with. it may come back worse.
in the manual, it does mention something about when the car is completely stopped, you may have problems shifting into 1st gear or reverse.section 4 page 7.

Thanks for the response ! sorry to hear you have had similr issues.

i'll check the manual as you suggest.

i'd like to know when else Kia propose we select reverse except when at a complete stop !!!

I have been told by another dealer that it is a known issue and the gearbox will only loosen up / bed in / run it at 35K !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

That sounds ridiculous to me personally.

This is two dealers now that have investigated the issue for me and both times i get the impression no-one really knows what they are doing or talking about.

i mean its not as this is the first car ever in the history of motoring to have a gearbox fitted !!!

Hi Bma
My carens box is preety much duff now,
I except this bought the car cheap knowing the carens 2 had a gearbox problem,
but i can honestly say this car is the biggest pile of bollox i have ever owned, never never will i buy a kia again.
No further more i would not except one if i won it.
I am trying to put off as many people as i can from buying a kia, seven year warranty what a crock
of sh*t, If they honour it you are gonner f**king need it.
i have a good stereo so drown all my rattles, squeeks, knocks, out,Part exchange value yer right,
try getting rid of one,
All the traits of main manufacturers now, Have they got to big to fast, I think so, Customer care I think not;
Any way rant over, There are probably hundreds of thousands of happy kia owners out there and i only represent the minority???
all the best

You hardly got any gear selection problems when the gearstick went straight into the gearbox. The cable linkage is prone to stretching and therefore notable to select cleanly hence crunchy gears and poor engagement. Obviously thegear cableshave to be checked at every service IMHO. But I think this is over looked and will only beadjusted if customer complains. Edited by: davy
