Rear washer issue

Hi everybody
This is not a new topic but it's new to me. No fluid issuing from the rear washer on my Kx-2 Gen 4. Can hear the motor running but no screen wash coming through. Dealership tell me it's gunk in the reservoir. They cleared it but said to do it properly it's a strip down and clean of the pump and associated pipe work and it will cost ÂŁ82! I said I would think about it. I collected the car, working for now and no charge. Looking on the forum looks like this has been an issue for a long time which tells me it's a design fault and should be fixed properly free of charge. It's not the dealers fault. They do as Kia tells them. I'll take it up will Kia when it reoccurs. Would love to hear if the members have had any similar experiences and l would welcome any advice.
Thanks in advance.

Had it happen on one car in the past. Dealer wanted ÂŁÂŁÂŁ's to sort despite car being still under warranty (only a year old). Reservoir was pretty easy to access and I found the pump filter blocked with gunge, simply cleaned out and refilled system, no more issues.

I did some asking round at the time and the consensus was this was likely to have been caused by mixing water additives. I used the normal Halfords screen wash, simply add water to taste, the dealer added their usual brew at service. For the next 4 years I made sure the washer bottle was full when it went near the dealer which should have prevented them adding their mixture (I suppose they could have siphoned some out or run the washers but I doubt they are that bothered). As I said above no more issues.

As said above mixing different brands of screen wash causes slimy gunge to form. And always make sure the bottle is full when taking for service so that they can't add any different.

Thank you Acenta
Very good response. So when the gunge comes back to haunt me do I have to remove the wheel liner to access the reservoir? Once the muck is cleared out the way forward is to make sure the bottle is full when the car goes for service. Simply brilliant. I always use Halfords by the way.

Had the same problem with my Kia Sportage. Booked it into my local Kia Dealer and was told it was not covered under the warranty On the day they said there was also a recall on the car which they would attend to. When l picked the car up the problem with the washer was a non return valve sticking, replaced it and it is now working fine. Also they did not charge me for the work involved replacing the valve.
