hello re timing belt
changed my timing belt and idler roller but tried to cheat with timing by just removing old belt and without turning any cogs put new belt back on

big mistake as diesel pump pully was not timed

stripped down a 2nd time timed up properly and started first time

2nd strip down took me 30 minutes because i new what to do and in what order

jack up the car and reemove drivers front wheel

remove mud cover

remove all engine top covers

remove water pipe from across timing cover

surport weight of engine

remove engine mount

use 14 mm spanner and long pipe on drive belt tensioner to move against the spring hold and remove drive belt

undo and put diesl filter to one side

remove engine mount

remove bolts from water pump pully no need to remove pully just leave it laid on the boss and move it about as you need to

remove top timing belt cover

renove crankshaft pully as explained in other posts

remove bottom timing cover. from under neath down

be very brutal it will come out without breaking

replace belt and retime as in other posts

total time from non starter to purring like a kitten just over 2 hours.

hope this helps others of us

bottom cover will come out from up top and the waterpump pulley does come offout of the way easy aswell.
remove airbox and remove the long bolt through the mounton the top of the gearbox when youthen jack the engine up it moves the engine more and the pump pulley will fall off and the bottom cover comes out very easy.

As you say the second time is easier than the first. On the ones I've done at the 60,000 mile mark have been a pain with everything done up until it squeaks by the factory and years of use. The second time they are still tight but no where as tigt as the first time.
