Ah, happy, memories...

I remember seeing Russell Brookes at Goodwood Festival Of Speed perhaps about five years ago when he was stood all alone by his car, quite forlorn, in the rally paddock. I don't think anyone younger than me recognised him.

And I was at Knowsley when Tony Pond smashed up his SD1. And a few years later at the service area at the Esso garage when Hannu Mikola came back from Knowsley with his Audi on three wheels, and Arne Hertz on the rear wing...

EDIT: the memory is playing tricks! I think actually the Pond incident was later than the Mikola incident? Pretty sure Pond was driving the Rover the same year as Vatanen was blitzing the opposition in the 205 T16, which would post-date the old Quattro days of Mikola, Blomquist and Mouton. I must see if I have any photos from back then in my loft...
