Daughters previous Picanto was a 1.2 and she was pleased with it. But the grin she has now is massive. She just loves the way it pulls away and the traffic light GP has a few shocks for some.
MPG is good as well. See sig.
Thumbs up for the 1.0 turbo. It really makes the car fun to drive. The 1.2 will be slightly more economical but the turbo engine makes the car feel faster than what it is. No worries about pulling out into gaps or overtaking and it's surprisingly good going up hills as well.
As iooi says, it's a great engine and although it's no hot hatch, it only weighs just over a tonne, so it's 98 BHP is more than adequate.

I would advise to avoid the rather poor 4 speed auto box version. It adds nearly 2 seconds to the 0-60, increases CO2 emissions and increases fuel consumption by around 6-7 MPG.
I took both for long test drives and much preferred it to the 1 litre turbo, which felt really highly strung and (to me) sounded awful. I really fear for the longevity of these tiny turbo'd engines.
My advice. Drive them both and get the one you like the best!
I love mine, 12 months of fun driving, and flew through its first service last week. As one of the other posters said, it's great 0-30mph if you need to move quickly at a set of lights etc. Also, has remap possibilities to take it up to 130bhp, which I'll be doing, as soon I've paid the bloody thing off.....
99hp in the piccy is more than enough, I have the Rio t-gdi at 118hp and would find that alarming in the piccy, coming from a 1.25 gt line piccy that was fun at 83hp so the turbo in the 99hp would be a big step up,
He’s arrived ?
