Has anyone had any paint issues with white kias?

Got a brand new ceed sport wagon ,only done 3k and did have 3 or 4 stone chips, thought I was just unlucky never had that many on a car before . washing it this morning noticed the front bumper by the badge is delaminating and paint under it is start to peel away ,probably the size of a hand.

I've owned numerous cars and never had so many paint chips on 100,000s miles so beginning to think it's just crap paint . Seems to be some FB groups in america with a lot of issues with just the white paint and various law suits.


Anyone else have issues or can advise if I should get the dealer to fix all chips or just the delamtion part ?

Will be ringing in the morning so see what they say .

Dealer should fixing lacquer & paint peeling, bumper will probably need respraying. Stone chipping is a fault our Sportage suffers from, like you I've never had so many stone chips on the front bumper & bonnet. Paint seems very soft

I've had this issue, but only after respray and touch up. Perhaps the car had transport damage touched up, an auto paint specialist may be able to determine if that is the case.

Best to get it sorted, after a while your dealer may blame you for stone chips, car washes, wrong chemicals and such.

booked it to get looked at but they cant see it until 5th May

Ive taken photos, but yer Jack thats my worry they will blame it on something else so i want to be armed as much as i can. Though i really cant see how they can argue against me it is obviously a paint issue.

Car has a 5 year paint warranty. Car has a paint fault. Warranty sorts out fault.

If they argue refer to Kia Customer Services and if that fails take it to the Ombudsman.

If you have not had any repairs carried out yourself you will win.

Its the cheapest paint they do and is usually sold to car rental companies who frankly don't care what the paintwork is like as they get rid of the cars after 12-18 months. Also they'd sting the renter for respray/remedial costs more than likely.

I'd heard Motorpoint were having issues with Arctic White paintwork on "nearly new" ex-rental cars so I waited for a month or so until a different colour (Dark Penta) came up. Its very much a case of "fastest finger first" on petrol Ceed SWs which aren't Arctic White as they sell inside a day or two on Motorpoint.

We have had white paint on 3 out of our last 5 cars. We choose it because we like white and it also just happens to be cheaper than most colours, on one it was £0 extra.

We have had about 3 other white cars in the past as well, as I said, we like white.

Not had a single issue.

Will continue to buy white cars with confidence providing the car looks good in white (some look carp).

For the record Rental Companies get rid of their cars after about 6 months. That is where most 6 month old Supermarket stock comes form.

Its Kia's only zero-cost option on Ceed paintwork. The rest start at about £250 and go up to £500 or so IIRC. That's not solely "inconvenience cost" as they spray a certain percentage each optional colour anyway. Its better paint in most (but not all) cases.

Hence why the car rental companies buy Arctic White - its zero-cost. There's also an argument they like white because its a lot easier to inspect/rip off customers for "damage", but we digress.

Over the last year its been way over 12 months on many, but how long they were sitting empty is anyone's guess.

The kia white was £250 option for me, the brown was the free one

I do understand what your saying but when you pay £20k for a new car I expect the paint to last at least 10 years !

The last Kia we went to see, a Picanto had a Blue as the only "free" paint, white was £250 extra. On a £8000 car (after scrappage) like the Picanto £250 for white or over £500 for a metallic is quite a significant %age cost, 6.25% in the case of the metallic. But on a £35,000 car like our recently bought Superb the £600 for metallic is only 1.7% extra thus far less significant. Since ours was a pre-reg it was included in the ticket price.

But cannot see why its a problem, all manufacturers charge extra for certain colours, some manufacturers special colours cost well over £2000. You have to accept it or walk away.

I agree as well but if you spend £8000 on a new Picanto that should last 10 years as well (in truth well over 10 years) but since I don't keep cars over 5 years normally I don't see how they shape up). But about 5 years ago I spotted a Golf I had bought new in 1989 in a local supermarket car park. It was 27 years old and whilst not exactly concours looked genuine enough for its age. I hung about and eventually spoke to the owner. It had been in his family for about 15 years, I had owned it for 7 years thus there was only a gap of about 5 years earlier in its life.

The paint looked good and it had obviously (to me) not had a respray since I could still see some of the poorly executed touch up repairs I had made. And it was white.

Hi all,

After some advise , long story short Kia have come back to me and said the paint delamination was a result of an accident and thus cannot be repaired under warranty.

Kia UK customer service have just told me the decision is final and there is no way to appeal it.

Absolute rubbish the car hasn't been in any sort of accident , how they have come up with that considering its right at the top of the bumper is beyond me .

Does anyone have any advise on how to escalate this?

I did buy it brand new from Allen Kia

but it was sat at the dealers for around 4 months as my collection day was the first day on lockdown all that time ago .
No sign of anything though and the location is right at the top of the front bumper by the bonet so a strange place

Cars can get damaged while they are at the dealers. My ex was a car salesman and even had one fall off of the delivery trailer. He said it wasn't the first time! When I bought my 69 reg white merc (I think that was 3 months old), they delayed collection as it had been caught in the carpark and needed the bumper scrape repairing. Didn't bother me as I couldn't tell it had been done and got it for a good price but they can have accidents before you get them. I don't know how you would prove it though if you think that's what's happened
