Hi every one
My Sorento 2004 2.5 diesel has just started making a noise it sounds like something spinning and flapping if that makes any sense, the sound goes when the clutch pedal is operated and returns when it is lifted, if you lift the pedal slowly the sound seems to start just before the pedal reaches the end of its travel and seems to increase by the time you take off your foot.
My money is on something to do with clutch, the thrust bearing maybe, my other thought is something to do with the main shaft.
Anyone had any experience of similar noise or know how to diagnose the problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice
Les

it might be the clutch release bearing but from your report it is unlikely, it sounds like the primary drive in to the gearbox, a noisy bearing, as you like the clutch the primary drive starts to turn in the gear box, causing the noise to start, if it were the release bearing it would be noisy all of the time more or less,

Hi f0ster
Thanks for your input, I have since taken the car to my local garage for their opinion and they seem to think like you that it is the primary shaft bearing he also said that it may be the flywheel some sort of floating arrangement, I've not heard of this, my car is a diesel and as we all know there is no manual for the diesel engine has anyone any idea about this type of flywheel is it used on the Kia Sorento, again any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking

Hi lads, I also have a 05 manual Sorento, complete with clattering noisy clutch/dual mass flywheel...add this to a clutch pedal that needs to be pushed through the bulkhead in order to get any time of clearance in order to engage first or reverse..... All components such as slave cylinder and fluid is in order.. It's just not a great design but it's typical of a lot of manufacturers of cars , vans and SUV of its age and newer... It's a pity because it takes from what is a good reliable well put together work horse and comfortable cruiser,,, far as I know there isint a conversion kit for the DMF available,,, if there is please someone tell me

I had to replace the clutch/DMF assy in a bora, I got it from an after market supplier, he had a listing for a non DMF kit for it so I fitted that with no issues that you can notice, ask at some of the after market suppliers,
