If you get 40mpg overall then thats about right, will drop to low 30's if you do short journeys. i cant understand why you are shocked there is a lot of info on here about fuel consumption, should of come up when you did your pre purchase research.

The mild hybrid part is more of a gimmick to pass emissions tests. ( posts on here about this) under test condition you will able to get the stated figures but in the real worlld not ! i find the best fuel consumption is on the motorway but once you start town/short journeys it drinks fuel, the car weighs 2 ton and is shaped like a brick after all. The best way to calculate fuel consumption is fill up to fill up, the dash display is more of a guide. i run mine in standard mode rather than eco, i found that it didnt effect my consumption and made the car nicer to drive.

I can achieve 40mpg because mine is two wheel drive and a manual, the awd and auto gbox all add to the fuel consumption.
