My 1.7 diesel (2012) Sportage is going into the clutch specialists for a new 3 piece LUK kit to be fitted on Monday. I had to drive in some queueing traffic today and my left knee was aching. The (heavy) clutch has been taking up right at the bottom of the pedal stroke and there has been difficulty sometimes in engaging and disengaging first and reverse. My suspicion is a weak pressure plate and failing release bearing as there has also been an occasional squeal on taking up the drive. There has been no slipping, so hopefully no damage done to the flywheel.

I will update the thread after we see the old parts on Monday. Fingers crossed as I love the car so far!

New 3 piece LUK kit fitted and all is well again. The release/thrust bearing was dry, noisy and had slight play. The pressure plate fingers were uneven and had flattened somewhat. The driven plate didn't look too bad at all and had a good bit of "meat" left on it. Gear engagement and disengagement is smooth now and the squeal on release has gone. A much more relaxed drive than previously, having to fight the stick! Don't delay, do it today! :) For information, I paid £485 to an independant local garage. Mr Clutch quoted a bit less but it saved me travelling 20 miles or so in heavy traffic, with a dodgy clutch!!!
