Thanx Gaz
Kia waranty have now requested i take the vehicle into Brindley W,ton for a specialist to look at the problem hopefully this can then be sorted satisfactory, as at the moment they still think i have ripped it. check out your passenger seat also for signs of wear, the leather will inprint along the plastic seat strip at the side of the seat then after constant rubbing as the seat is compressed the material is so thin it is wearing and then tears along the plastic stip line. I am pleased you have contacted me as Kia were stating they had not recieved any further complaints of this nature. I think they have a major problem with this and all hell will break loose soon poosibly a recall to change the seating.

I cant honestly ever see Kia doing a seat recall, far to expensive an exercise and not a health and safety issue.

They may do. Rover did one when their Rover 800 leather seats started turning green in the sun.

Did have a look at passenger seat Alan and your right that too is just starting to go.
It's unbelievable cos the wife only sits there and she's 8 stone wet through!
Kia could may well have a storm on horizon.
The leather Is really thin tho so I ain't surprised it's gone (is it real leather looks imitation to me).
Hopefully it will get sorted soon, let me know how you get on.
Cheers.

More often than not "full leather" actually means leather seat facings only. The back and sides are vinyl leathercloth.

Then went bust and folded!

True... but it was twenty years after the green seat recall.

Had a look at my driver's seat.
Looks ok for now (4 mths old 5k on the clock)
But looking closely I see the plastic trim round the edge of the seat is tight against the leather.
Passing my finger on the inter plastic you can feel little nodules on the plastic which over time sitting on the seat and getting in and out will wear the leather.

Need to keep an eye on it

Both front seats on my KX3 crdi sat nav are showing early signs of this problem, as a short term solution I have placed strips of black electrical insulating tape the length of sharp edges of the side trim and await further developments.

I thought you were being extreme but I checked mine and the plastic trim has nodules/burrs on it also. It's bound to cut into the leather at some point! Do I tape up, which is daft on a 4 week old car, or wait to see if it gets damaged and take it up with Kia. They could do a lot worse than recall for a modified plastic strip as an alternative to replacing the full seats. Edited by: Funky

Due to this thread i have just checked the seats in my FE and the only thing i can see is the indentations of the nodules on the plastic trim no signs of wear the car is now 12 months old with 9000 mls. The FE has full leather seats is this a problem only affecting part leather?

'3' models have full leather too and I think there is at least one such car affected. It may just be down to variations in the quality of the leather.
