Hi I am a newbie so would appreciate any advice you have to give. I am having what sounds like knocking or even something slightly loose in the engine on the side of the cambelt. Anyone got any suggestions please.

Below the pulleys on the camshaft side of the engine is a plastic plate which protects the crankshaft pulley and the belts from the car running over anything and having it thrown into the pulleys. Not a nice thing to happen, with a very bad outcome likely. This is held in with a bolt or two, and a couple of grommits with plastic screws. This can easily vibrate loose causing noise especially in low gear situations, like roundabouts, driving off, etc etc. Give this a check anyway, just pull it about a bit, this could be your problem
