Just been reading this evening that Kia and Hyundai have allegedly been hit by hackers in the form of a ransomeware attack. Apparently according to reports in a number of computer journals including Bleeping Computers, a financial demand has been issued in the sum of $20M to be paid in Bitcoin escalating to a larger sum if not paid within a certain timeframe.

There’s clearly some substance in these reports as Kia has issued an official statement denying these allegations.

If the reports are correct, it is a Doppellpaymer attack which was reported last August on the computer systems of Newcastle University.

Hope this is untrue, but having seen what happened to the exchange company Travelex quite recently I suspect there could well be a situation here, certainly in the US.
