1st I would try given the locking point a real good clean. After 11 years there could be all sorts of fluff etc causing a less than perfect lock.

Some compressed air. Really thin brush, such as used for teapot spouts..
You do not really want to put anything sticky down there, as it will just gum it up even more.

I'm having the same problem. Bought a replacement, 2nd hand, went to install it today and on my first test it came undone :( seems better than the one that was originally in there so will see how it goes.
Food for thought though.
