Often asked question.
A couple of ways of doing this.
If you click on your user icon (top right next to 3 dots, then select "Conversation" Then "Start Conversation" it gives you the form to fill in. This allows you to enter the person or persons, if more than one & complete the message.
Or the easier way.
If you hover your mouse pointer over the persons icon you want to send a message too (as per below picture) then click on message (confusing I know) it will bring up a box to send a message, but will already have the user name pre populated.
