I would send a pic but I un-hardwired it last week! It kept cutting out during recordings (causing card corruption), the battery wasn't charging and there was a flickering rolling down the screen. It was the hardwire kit that was causing it. I'm not sure if it's faulty or if I just didn't connect it to a good enough earth point. I'm using the supplied 12v socket cable now

. I've still run the cable under the dash and in the door rubbers though so you can't see it. I don't use the socket for anything else anyway.

Can someone post me some links to a dash cam hardwire kit and and a piggyback fuse adaptor that will fit the internal fuse box of my 2016 Sportage as I'm confused as to whether it has mini2 fuses, mini, micro, low profile.... confused.com.

Cheers guys

A little more searching would have produced the answer to your question but if you have withdrawn a fuse, perhaps one marked as spare, you can compare its profile with the fuses described in this infographic:

Now, my Optima model uses Micro2 fuses and none of the others above will fit the fuse slots. I think some, perhaps all, Sportage models use one of the Mini-types.

Once you have ascertained which fuse you need, you will be able to purchase whatever you need from the interweb thingy.

I bought my hard wire kit from the nextbase website, it's also available from Halfords so easy to get, as for the fuse well I have to apologise as I can't remember. I just took the hard wire device to Halfords and matched up the fuses!! I'm looking for the packer but I can't find it and the bin men have been!!

You shouldn't need to? I pulled off the door rubber down the front A pillar side just enough to pull off the side trim to give access to the side of the fuse box. Fit your wires at the headlining end where you want your dash cam to be, I put mine on the window on the front side of the rear view mirror so you can get it off and on easily enough, also take out the micro sd if required? I then routed the wires along the head lining and back to the trim covering the A post. I fed mine behind this using the trim tool supplied by NB when it drops down to the drivers side of the fuse box you can then feed it through. I coupled as much as the excess wire I could together and tied this with a cable tie because NB give far too much cable for a car probably supply for wagons? and I didn't want to cut it as you have to fire up the dash cam so didn't want any power leakage or drop on this. I coupled this to the micro piggy back supplied by NB after phoning them, (the kit comes with 2 or 3 but not the one needed for the sportage). I fed the rear dash cam wires along the top of the doors from the top of the boot as mine is fitted as near to the top of the rear screen as possible, and to the front of the car. This plugs directly into my 522GW and runs with the main power cable if that makes sense? I found tying these with mini cable ties helps to keep them up inside the lining as without it mine kept falling out whilst driving? Fit the earth to that 10 mm bolt, I fitted my lead to a random 10A fuse on the second row about 6 fuses in from the right? not sure which one but its tricky to fit when your 67 lol? and my dash cam was live with the ignition and also worked in parking mode too? then refit the panel and door rubber, jobs a good one. Using the NB player app and Alexa app on my Iphone allows me to download and view live on the phone or You can also remove the dash cam from the GO Pro mount and charge it indoors via USB A on a windows PC which is what I also do. The other option is remove micro SD and download footage from there to. Hope this helps. I've just removed mine as awaiting my GT S Line AWD MHEV to be delivered... its now off the ship now but awaiting transport to the main dealer for onward delivery to me.

One more thing... :O) I've noticed the hardwire kits seem to have a box located on part of the wiring. in view of this is it best to start at the fuse box and work your way back to the mirror ? Sorry for all the questions, probably more logical if i had all the items together. the camera has arrived, the hardwire kit is on its way..

Just pick the spot for the camera location and locate it using the suction pad. Then loosely run the cabling around the route (use sticky tape if you need to) back to the fusebox. Ensure there is sufficient unstressed cable at the camera end to allow connection/disconnection without dragging the cable out from behind the headlining - very little is required.

Once the earthing point is located adjacent to the fuse board, firmly attach the earth cable and tidy the excess cable using cable ties and secure it wherever you have space in that vicinity.

The power lead can then be inserted into the piggy-back fuse tap lead which, in turn, can then be inserted and Bob's your uncle!

Any fuse will do if you can work out from the diagram on the flap which fuse is which.

eg. ACC or audio will give you a switched live, hazard warning will give a permanent live.

Take a look at the diagram on the back of the flap think about when that particular component would work, it will become obvious when you think about each one to be honest.

So still not sure which fuse it is in the sportage and which is the best one to adapt.. any thoughts.

I'm sorry 'stu8rt' but I can't understand your difficulty identifying the fuse type in your Sportage. Have you actually accessed the fuse panel and removed a fuse? If you have, you should be able to identify which type you have by a comparison with this selection:

Now, I'm not familiar with the Sportage fuse panel but if it's anything like that in my Optima, there is an attached diagram inside the panel cover which lists the fuses contained there. As to which particular fuse you might utilise to piggy-back with, just use one that's relatively innocuous - I chose the rear wiper which is rarely used and was also easier than some others to remove and replace with my fat fingers. Just make sure you select one that becomes live with ignition on rather than a constant live for the sake of your camera battery.

I'm not certain but I think there was a pic, perhaps in a different thread about dashcams, from a Sportage owner, depicting how he had connected up to the fuse panel.

Can anyone advise what the best earth is in the interior fuse box area? (65) Sportage AWD

I have a Blackvue DR650S 2Ch but having issues getting a good earth. I have already gone through 3 Powere Magic Pro's and I think its because of a poor earth connection. Probably due to my wiring however I want to confirm a stable earth connection and use that. Edited by: RAYK47
