Hi Guys,

I'm a new member here so I apologize if I repeat a question that has already been answered.
Today I was driving down the motorway and put the car in 5th gear. When I tried to up shift to 6th the gear stick would not move and was stuck in position. After about 20mins or so of being stuck in the middle of the motorway i managed to get the gear stick loose. When it released i was driving along and could go into gears 1,2,3 and 4 with no issue but could not get the car into 5th or 6th gear.

So my question to you guys is, do you know what the root cause of this issue could be?
I am also curious would this be covered by my 7 year warranty?

2013 Kia Ceed Tech 4
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

HI, sounds like the selector for 5 & 6 as this would work these 2 gears, maybe baulk ring damage or a simple adjustment.
All covered under warranty, push for a new box and not a strip down and repair if they feel it's not a adjustment required. Call and report to Kia customer services so they can help monitor what is happening with the car.

Depends on your dealer.
On my Ceed I had over the 7 years about a dozen faults from wheel bearings to ecu computer, common rail fuel pump.
All covered under warranty without any problems.

As long as the dealer/service department correctly state the faults and put all the details in I never had a problem.
The 7 year warranty has been the best cover I have every had with any car manufacturer.

Thanks guys really appreciate your advice. Its booked in for kia to take a look at it tomorrow. Ill give Kia customer service a call later like you said to report the issue so they can monitor and ensure the job is done right.
Will 100% push for a new box instead of a strip down if its covered.

The dealer will try and fob you off and tell you it's not covered by warranty. As they get paid very little for warranty work.

Its better for them if you paid for the work.
aircraft, there seems to be an emerging theme with your posts that KIA dealers are all unscrupulous ne'er do wells who will reject warranty claims on the slightest pretext and are only out to rip off their clients.

ALL dealers?

Have you had some unfortunate experiences?

Care to name and shame the dealers concerned?

If you're anywhere near Worthing the dealer at Washington on the A24 is top notch. We've had two Kias from them, the wife's Picanto and my late Cee'd, and the dealership has been a pleasure to deal with, both for purchase and servicing.

Funny how you should bring up poor kia dealers. Rio went for it's first mot and got pulled up on a dodgy suspension arm, went to the dealers and was told that the warranty doesn't cover the suspension as this is classed as ware and tear. Contacted the customer support and told the same thing, I understand breaks and exhaust system not being covered by the warranty, but a suspension arm should not be failing in less than three years after leaving the factory. I brought the kia rio specifically for the warranty. Feel like a complete idiot now,

Depends what they have pulled it up for. If they are saying it's due to accidental damage (pothole damage for example,) it's not covered.
It may well be worth getting a second opinion though. If you can prove the fault is attributable to a manufacturing defect, that would be covered by the warranty.

I also would be disappointed if a suspension part was failing after only three years. (presume you have had the car from new and it has not been abused)

Ask to speak with the manager in person. Then ask him to show you under what clause in the warranty he is refusing, without even examining the car.

You could also putit to the Kia Customer Services peeps on this forum - they have intervened in the past.

Very shoddy from your Kia dealership... Not the "family like customer care" that they like to shout from the rooftops!I would be respectfully asking them to inspect the suspension, detailing the faults in a report and putting in writing the reasons why they are refusing a warranty claim before brushing it off so casually in the manner that they have.
May still be worth getting a Good independent garage to inspect and document their findings too. Three years is very poor for a part (even hard working suspension components.)

Just finished with a phone call from kia customer service, guess what they are backing the dealer and saying that because it's a advisory notice and not a failure, kia will not cover the part as per warranty. I am so very disappointed with kia. If the dealership had examined the car and said it's safe to drive but it can be replaced at my own coast then that would be one thing, but they didn't even examine the car. Now I have a car which is going to be very costly to repair which I can't really afford. Why did I buy a kia???

An advisory is not notice of a fault at this time. It is advising that the part might need attention if it deteriorates. Also the MoT tester would not pass the car if he felt that failure is imminent, and would not have let you drive it away if he felt that it was not safe to drive.

So KIA will not undertake a warranty repair of a part which has not yet failed.

If unhappy about the potential then take the car elsewhere and pay for someone to give a second opinion.

I would push the dealer to carry out detailed inspection and make them put it in writing that the car is same to drive.
When I had anti-roll bar drop links & rear wheel bearings changed at different times under warranty they did not wait until they failed, both times I was not aware I had a problem.
As I said before it really depends on your dealer, looks like on this occasion they haven't even inspected the car and submitted a report to Kia.

I had a Drop Link and Wheel Bearing done under Warranty at 5-6 Years old around 70K.Had failed MOT at my local Kwik-Fit on both. I hadn't noticed any noises/clonks

Kwik-Fit correctly failed it. Kia honoured the Warranty.

I can also understand why Kia won't fix yours yet as it was an Advisory rather than a Fail.
