Every manual car I have had, that has a gear change indicator, has received a piece of black sticky tape, of appropriate size, over the top. Nanny state or what!I suppose, if you are deaf, so cannot hear the engine screaming, it helps, but you still have a rev counter.
I have a 2010 ceed 2 and have had the same problem. At times it would not show at all and other times come on and go off without changing gears. It has not worked at all for a while now but dose not seem to affect anything . I'm in the same mind as you as in why has it stopped working, fair enough I d'ont need it but would like to know why. Was quoted ÂŁ109 to put it on a diagnostics from Kia , I think I will live without it.
Turns out it was a faulty clutch switch, it also made the car jerky and affected the central locking, all sorted under warranty thank goodness.
