2010, Kia CEED 1.4 G4FA,
Its done 22,000,
Immaculate bodywork
Good service history.
The main bearings have failed, Knocks like a toilet door in a storm !
I cannot find an engine at a sensible price and wonder if a 1.6 would run on the 1.4 electronics.
Any polite suggestions most welcome.

I cannot see that the 1.4 electronics would work with the 1.6 as you would need the ecu and sensor programmed or changed, Strange that it is such low millage with service history and has failed main bearings as these engines don't seem to have bearing issues.
Have you tried getting a quote from a local recon specialist or looked into if you can replace main bearings without a full strip down?

Unfortunately the engine has been run too long so I would expect Crank damage, I thought the noise was (cam or chain) so rebuilt the top end but the little tick became a louder knock! I was hoping the 1.6 might fit, programming would not really be a problem. The cost of rebuilt engines is such that it's just not worth it on an older car.
It is strange as the car has been looked after quite well.Sods law rules.

I expect you have already asked this dealer on
eBay item number:
274415951930
If you have nothing to lose I would take the engine out and look at the crank as can always be reground and new bearings fitted, if you do this I will be also replacing oil pump as bearing must have run dry.
Good luck

buying s/h engines can be tricky, you will get a warranty with it but if it is unsatisfactory and you need to take it back for a refund it will be to remove at your expense,

Thanks for taking time to answer, The top end has been rebuilt so maybe it would be worth pulling the bottom for a good look, I had not planned to go any further on this engine but in the absence of a replacement at a sensible price !
It starts and runs well just rattles like a "toilet house" door above idle.

Wonder if it might be possible to fit a diesel engine and electronics, Starting to think of scraping a good car. Its not worth the risk of rebuilding the bottom end. Owned two Kia's and have to say they were very very good but I have come unstuck and thinking never to own another.
