hi in reply to engine noise at low revs sadly still have big problem,when engine is under load especially third gear as I accelerate car sound like a tractor,my mechanic insists this is a gearbox problem.took it back to dealer who took out gearbox and sent it to a specialist in leeds who told them its not the gearbox.so stuck with noisy car at moment deciding what to do next.

Hello Michael and welcome to the Kia forums.
No one other than Green hunters suggestion could be valid as as you have not told us whether petrol diesel, manual or Auto Or what revs in gears you need to change at.
The Garage who said they removed your box and sent it off for testing is fabricating stories. Manual or Automatics Have to be tested On the car. The cost of removal and refitting 1s up to 1/4 of fitting Recon. box.
The dealer is having you over playing for time so his obligations expire.
Get your car checked out by reputable garage soon.

I'm having similar issue on a '58 petrol manual. Rattles/vibrates/resonates around 1500 RPM under load. Not a heatshield in my case as I've checked/removed them to no avail :( I suspected the flexi-pipe was shot, but I braced it and the noise is still there.

Really interested to hear how you get on with this...

Hi Patterson your petrol engine should not be under heavy load at 1500 rpm. drop a gear and see if rattle still there for same amount of work.
As cars get older they loose power and may find anything loose.
At 1500 rpm your manifold will be sucking hard so check all pipes around manifold for air leaks check air filter. is it sharp or dull noise?

Sorry, don't want to hi-jack the post but I'll answer Jeff's question;

It'll only happen at the lower revs, but it'll happen at that RPM regardless of what gear I'm in. If it's doing it in 4th and I drop to 3rd then the noise will stop.

It sounds just like a heatshield rattle but I've secured/removed all the ones in the area that it 'seems' to be coming from - hence me wondering it it's a clutch rattle. Another description of the sound would be like twanging a plastic ruler along a desk - but more of a metallic noise. it almost sounds like something is loose, but then gets wound up and the noise disappears.

Hi Robert your trouble sounds like an old case of severe Pinking. I know it sounds wrong because you are not accelerating but at low dropping revs. the manifold suction is immense and air or exhaust from crank can cause pinking which is just incorrect mixture miss firing.
Other than air leaks an egr or breather valve from sump to intake may be cause . can be made worse if plugs are worn.
It does not sound characteristic of clutch or fly wheel. the only other noise is loose baffle in exhaust or broken sensor mount in exhaust. at high revs may get pinned back so does not rattle.

hi , I had the same problem. rattling on power take up. this turned out to be the clutch. even though it looked fine when it was removed a new one cured the problem. but note noise is starting again faintly after a year and a half later. I find driving in a lower gear than you would usually helps negate this. I am assuming yours is the diesel like mine.my opinion on this is the diesel engine has too much torque for the clutch and overpowers the clutch springs making the clutch 'chatter'. hope this helps. good luck.
