Hey guys, new here, I have a 2004 2.5 auto Sorento, and its giving trouble.

When the engine is running and you take the oil filler cap of it will puff out white smoke, I dipped it for oil and it was a third of the way up the dipstick, I drained it and took quite a bit of oil and diesel out of the sump, so obviously its leaking oil past the pistons, any ideas what may be causing this?

Cheers, Liam

If you are saying that there is diesel in the sump and you have a rising oil level together with smoke out of the oil filler I would suggest that you have pretty serious engine issues, broken or badly worn rings and bores at least. You will need to have a compression test and leak down test carried out to initially determine if you have these issues but it does not sound good.

sounds like you have a leaky injector, diesel can get directly into the cylinder head we have seen this on a couple of cars beware this is a high pressure system you will need to get the injectors checked at a specialists do not do what one of our customers did and connect the injector up outside the engine this system operates at 380bar thats 5600psi

Strange one really......

I got a mate to look at it last week, to do a compression test, his kit wouldn't work on the Kia engine so I picked it up on Saturday morning, it was running exactly the same. about half way home I noticed it was running pretty rough, especially on lower revs, limped home and popped to bonnet to see one of the injectors bobbing away on top of the engine, (my mate had had them out and obviously didn't tighten them) so I tightened them up. Monday morning came and it was bookend into the Kia dealer to get the injectors bench tested. I checked for oil, fine. Started her up and noticed straight away there was no knocking from the engine, I opened the oil filler and there was no smoke whatsoever, its been running perfectly since!
