hi all
I have a 2004 kia picanto 1-1 petrol with 50.000 on the clock.
just lately I noticed a different sound from the engine
its a low growl, speeds up when revved. both stopped or driving
suspect low power steering fluid, the level is hard to see due to the condition of the reservoir. But not heavy on the steering
or might be air conditioning related, not well up on that side of things
any help welcome

hello Tankerman . the air con and power steering would be noisy when they are working not all the time.
A low noise is likely to be Bearing.
Water pump, Alternator, the Auxiliary belt tensioner.
Or it could be tiny exhaust blow.
Open bonnet and using a kitchen towel roll tube to your ear see if you can locate area of new noise.

hi jeff.g thanks for your prompt reply will try your suggestion as soon as I get an empty toilet roll, seriously will try my trusty large screw driver don't fancy my nose that close to those moving parts
but I can see that the hollow tube will amplify the noise more
will keep you informed with any results
