Hi, the EGR valve has failed on my 2011 1.6crdi Carens, it has been cleaned up but after refitting the car goes back into fault mode PO4040. We think the motor inside the valve has failed due to being stuck. So I need a new EGR valve . The part number of the unit from my car is 28410-2A800 but this isn't the valve that part finders bring up for my car, and in fact no one I've contacted has one or even seem to know of its existence. It looks identical to the 28410-F0000 used on the 2l diesel engines. Please see images. Does anyone know if they are one and the same (I'm tempted to buy one and try it)? are there any other reasons the PO4040 might come up? With the main dealers shut I'm stuck on how to resolve the problem and really hoped there might be a specialist on here?

Don't look at numbers on it, it could be changed in years of production, use KIA dealer to find correct number or make spare parts dealers to find the right one for your car in their catalogues.

Kia will be your best source of exact part number required, guessing what may fit won't help.

The valve exists on my car and that diagram but the motor factors have no record of it. Try and buy one! I have now found one site that lists it, but it is £400 and to be honest that seems totally over the top compared with other vehicles in the same range, the car isn't uncommon, or a premium brand. Initially I thought I was looking at £60. I used to have a Nissan Elgrand - I may have expected this kind of battle/expense with that, but not this!

yep genuine Kia £408 from online-parts.co.uk. Also appears to be used on the Hyundai i20 (maybe on other Kia/Hyundai) even used parts are coming up on google at high prices, if you cant find a pattern part that's the level of pricing your facing

Have you tried the big scrap merchants? Some of the biggest concerns are very good at locating parts these days. Sadly, they are also very good at pricing their parts!

I haven't tried the scrap yards yet, but that will be the next step. I'm even wondering how much it would cost to replace the internal motor if I can get into it! I hate getting ripped off! I sold a Mazda 5 because you could only buy the exhaust from the main dealer (at the time). I'm also considering a blanking plate, anyone done that?

pull it apart, it might just be the motor seized, you have nothing to loose

Just following this up in case someone else has a similar issue (I hate those unfinished threads!). Recap - The egr valve was SOLID with carbon and the fault code in the system pointed us to that. After removing (not easy as it was baked on), and cleaning the egr valve and refitting, the car was still going back into limp home mode and wouldn't rev past 3000rpm. We assumed the clean (looked like new inside!) hadn't worked and the egr valve was now faulty. However, someone cleverer than I suggested that the fuel filter could also be causing an issue. Before buying another EGR valve it was worth a go, and it has worked. The car now revs freely and the EML is now off.

This year (2011) of MK2 Carens is a problem regarding parts as mentioned above, if the EGR valve was faulty it's only available as a genuine part and you'll pay through the nose. The fuel filter that the reg no. suggests through online part finders is also incorrect, I had to use the Kia part number from the filter as removed from the car and cross reference it.

The good news is however that it was a simple and relatively inexpensive fix for anyone experiencing similar problems.

Bit of a shot in the Dark, but does anyone have anymore info about this? I have exactly the same problem as described, and have also just changed Fuel filter, I'm not so lucky still getting the same error. This EGR is so elfin expensive compared to all the other ones that fit Kia/Hyaundi, and when I search for the part based on Reg it brings back an EGR that is nothing like the one one my vehicle. Does anyone have a clue why? I've found 2 different valves 28410-F0000 and 28410-2A850 both look identical. Whats the difference?
