hi,

EGR has failed on my 2011 Kia Sportage crdi, I’m not paying £450 to replace it, anyone fitted the blanking plates and if so does it need the hole in it?

any help much appreciated

cheers

Welcome to the forum, 'Steve sportage crdi'.

Any interference in the emissions paraphernalia such as you have described makes the vehicle illegal under the latest rules in regard to vehicle emission control. It should be an automatic failure at MOT test time, regardless of the emissions produced under test.

Blanking the EGR will cause your vehicle to emit NOx in unacceptable quantities. NOx is carcinogenic and also causes potentially fatal lung irritation. The increasing trend to ban diesels from vatious city centres is in part because the NOx levels are exceeding safe limits.

You couild try cleaning the EGR - there are various methods and often are successful. You could also look at an aftermarket EGR
