I am having a holiday in France and will be driving a lot ! I know this question has probably been asked thousands of times. But do you need to put in light deflectors on a 2017 Sportage ?

thanks in advanced

Can't answer the question about light deflectors but don't forget you now need a UK (rather than GB) sticker and if your No. Plate has a GB/Flag on it it needs to be covered by a UK sticker.

Also check if the Nav system has Speed Camera alerts (for French Maps) - you will need to disable them;
If your satnav can show French camera locations in France then you must at least disable camera alerts before driving in France.

You also must carry a HV vest and a reflective warning triangle.

The handbook is not clear on this subject, but if you have standard halogen lights you will probably need light deflectors. However some 2017 Sportage's have Bi-Xenon headlights fitted and they should have an option in the dashboard User Setting Mode, under the Light option that set's the lights in 'Travel Mode' for foreign travel.

The rules regarding speed camera's have changed. Originally your sat nav could not warn you of speed camera's, however this has been amended, the sat nav can now warn of danger zones that may contain a speed camera. The zones can vary in size, form 300m to 4km depending on the road type. This article from TomTom explains.

You don't need light deflectors on a 2017 Sporty, we've had 2013; 2016 and 2019 Sporty's and never needed them.
You should also be OK for travel into major city centres, but be aware if there is any heavy fog/smog (not likely really this time of years, but when pollution levels are high CritAir can be be invoked).
As said, UK number plates stickers *easily available for about £1.50 the pair.
Breathalysers turned out to be a bit of a scam as the minister had shares in the company.
The Kia SatNav doesn't have speed camera warnings, but your mobile map/GPS may, so be aware. Also be aware that the French do access the DLA records to send you speeding fines :(
If you venture into Spain, for some weird reason they also require the UK oval stickers, like the old GB ones. So much for EU harmonisation!!
Also your breakdown kit (presume you'll have European breakdown cover) and you might want to think about the new V16 warning beacon, which transmits your GPS position on motorways. Otherwise use a flashing orange/yellow warning beacon, safer than trotting 100 yards down the road to warn traffic, then going back to collect in the dark, so have powerful torches, hi vis in the car for each passenger. We also take a tyre inflation pump, first aid kit and emergency foil blankets. Then if there's space left for your luggage, you're good to go! :)

I use Eurolites headlamp adapters for when I drive in France. Also I use a Liber-t Tag in my car window from Emovis tag UK no messing trying to find the correct change, just drive up to the barrier it beeps and lets you through the money is billed the following month and taken from your account, been using it for 7 years no problems.

I'm travelling to France in May, so they say my car must be fitted with headlight deflectors. I have 2018 (68) Gt Line and my dealer tells me it doesnt need headlight deflectors as all GT lines are fitted with LED lights. I'm strill not convinced so may fit some cheap delectors anyway, just in case. Has anyone else driven in Frace with a Kia Sportage? What is the situation with replacement bulbs for cars with LED lights? My dealer says there are'nt any LED bulb kits available and the handbook says not to attempt to replace the bulbs yourself anyway, take to an authorised garage. So how do you get round this French police requirement to have a replacement bulb kit in your car?

Your dealer is correct in that your can't replace the led bulbs, only replace the whole unit which is expensive and feasible to carry around a spare headlight unit. In Amy case you'd have to carry around two as you would not be sure which side would blow. I go to France 3 times a year and never had an issue being stopped and asked to produce a spare set of bulbs. Just carry a few in a box to cover things like indicator bulbs, number plate bulbs etc, the one's that are easily changed. I believe even the gemdemarie realise the impracticalities of being able to carry bulbs for these types of headlights.
