Hi all. Due to pick up new car tomorrow and forgot to ask about free driveaway insurance. How do I get it from Kia and how can I extend it for more than 1 day? Is this a dealer provided perk?

Thanks in advance.

When I bought mine it was included automatically by the dealer and I believe was valid for 3 days

Pretty sure Kia do not do this anymore.
Dealer should be asking for proof of insurance, as car will need to be taxed before you drive away.
It was on the Kia website but it wasn’t clear how to get it. Weirdly the dealership I am picking up the car from has 7 days insurance cover for approved used Kia’s so was surprised when it wasn’t mentioned for new ones.

At the time I bought mine new, they mentioned the temp insurance also meant they could tax it easier. When a friend bought from a different marque, I'm sure he had to provide insurance docs for them to sort the tax.

It'll have to be insured to be taxed.

Surprised the OP didn't get an email with a link to temporary insurance - standard is 72 hours and even second-hand non-Kia dealers like Motorpoint provide that free of charge.

If the OP gave their driving licence details to the Kia dealer and its a new car then I'd expect the dealer to have insured it for 72 hours automatically.

In general its a bad idea to extend this type of specialist insurance as you're unlikely to get a decent deal. They're only intended to give you enough time to shop around and get a normal insurance deal.

Right, I phoned the dealership and the asked me to call KIA insurance. Number is 03301 028 826. They gave me a quote for 12 months insurance and 5 days free driveaway insurance. Apparently they can only give the free driveaway insurance if they can give you a formal quote too.
Thanks for all responses!

A quote that you are under no obligation to accept. Win/Win

How is the dealer expecting you to collect the car today if it isn't insured or taxed?

Pretty poor service if you ask me.
Quite. The Insurance is easily resolvable at the dealership, the Tax - No, and it's a Bank Holiday Weekend. Personally I would decline to take it today (and pay Tax for the whole of May) Collect it taxed on Tuesday and save yourself a month's worth of Tax.

I negotiated this deal over the phone - they matched a car wow price so got a good deal. But as it is my first time, I hadn’t considered the implications of getting taxed at the end of the month. I was given 2 years free servicing for picking up today. It’s not the end of the world, and would rather get the car today.

Lack of tax doesn't invalidate your insurance and tbh and I wouldn't bank on enforcement through cameras. But that's irrelevant.

As the tax process is part of every handover, I'm a bit unsure why the Op is in this position. Has the dealer not sold anything before?
