Hi All

I'm a newbie and would like some advice if possible.
I have a 2004 Carens with 32k miles on the clock.
It is an excellent car in every way and very reliable, but in the last week I have noticed a strong smell of diesel inside the cabin when I start her up. Also occasionally there is an odour outside too.

Is this a common issue? Is it likely to be serious and will it cost a lot to repair?

Thanks in advance.

KIA-KID

Not a common fault but quite an easy one to repair. I'm afraid it sounds like you have a fractured deisel line. There is a hole in the pipe somewhere in the engine compartment that is venting into your cabin. Find a clean rag and locate your fuel pipe. pull the rag along the pipe and inspect it every 10 cm or so till you find the culprit and simply replace. Have you recently had a repair/inspection/service done??? If the fault is not in the line I would also inspect your injectors glow plugs and the turbo unit for leaks. Let me know how you got on.

Hi again

I've now traced the leak to the diesel pump. (Good call Viking Paul).

There is a panel on the top of it held on by 4 bolts thats got a very small leak. I'm hoping that there is a perished gasket under it that can easily and inexpensively be replaced.

Can anyone confirm this? Unfortunately at the minute I don't have the correct size star head driver thing to get it off.

two types of pump depending on chassis no

3310027000 = £458.25 retail my price £409 inc vat

3310027400 + £616.87 retailmy price £535 inc vat

£400 surcharge on old unit plus postage you should also replace the high pressure pipes especialy on the 3310027400 pump as this one runs at very high pressures call me if any good
